Most of the Mason-Dixon TDR chapter know about this deer runs into truck incident. I wasn't a happy camper about 3/4 of my passenger side being banged up. Life throws you lots of curve balls so just grin and bear it!
Well contact with the deer was a piece of cake compared to dealing with the insurance company and the body shops( two). Here it goes because I need to vent.
Waited three weeks to get an appointment. Take truck in to be repaired said it would take 7-10 working days. Just body and paint work needed to be done. I call at 7 days and I'm told need 2 more days. OK. Call two days later and its still not ready. Tell them I need the truck tomorrow and BTW it will be ten days. Go to pick up truck and notice there is overspray on the frame, springs, roof, windows, and door jambs. There are three spots that are still bare metal.
There are runs and sand in the paint. I say what is this???? I'm told that the work is way above average. Say What! I tell them if this was a 40K dollar Lexus it wouldn't look like this. We go round and round about the condition of my truck until he finally says," Well you brought the truck to me wrecked, what do you expect. " At this point I decide to leave or else I might have done something I would later regret.
Round two:
Fight with the insurance company about ****ty work. I'm told to take the truck back to be fixed correctly. Spend the next half hour telling the adjuster no way I'm going back there again. We settle this the next day.
Round three.
Go to a new body shop. I had work done there in the past with good results. Forgot to ask if any ownership changes in the past 6 years. Oops. They assure me they still do excellent work and will make me happy. Drop truck of monday afternoon. They say truck should be done Friday (maybe) or Monday. Ok. Call friday and not close to being done. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. I tell them it has to be done Wednesday because I'm moving out of state on Thursday morning!!!! They say we don't want to rush things.
What am I missing? the first repair was for 41 hours. they had 80 hours to do the work. The second repair is for 22 hours and they say they may not be done after 56 plus hours? This is factored on only 8 hour work days. what gives. Do they work for free? I know there is some down time ( paint drying etc. ) but that's what the other 16 hours are for in each day.
Sorry, had to vent. This will bring the total repair time to 3. 5 weeks. That's a LONG time to be without the Cummins.
I just hope they get it right this time.
