A little side step here, has anyone cleaned out a DEF container and used it to carry diesel in it? I have a 5 gallon diesel container and it's a PITA to use!

You'll never get it rinsed out with water. If you want to try it, your gonna have to rinse it out with E85.

Urea is 10 times more soluble in ethanol.

HA no. I still am fit enough that is not the problem. It's the new containers are such a PITA to operate with all the "safety" BS. I thought the DEF container dispensed the DEF easily so I thought why not carry two DEF containers with Diesel in them.
I see.....I'm with ya 100%. I always carry two 5-gallon containers in my truck, just in case.

My remedy :
I carry one of these in my tool box :

.....and I ditched the "EPA Approved" :-laf caps on the 5-gallon jugs with these :

I guess one could say I "deleted" my fuel cans. :-laf

WHY are you guys carrying an extra 5 gal of fuel??? With only a 29 gal stock tank in me 06 F-250 Ford I ran 15000 miles from Greenville SC to Fairbanks AK and back and never had a problem finding fuel. Granted up in Alaska I fueled up at 1/2 to 3/4 tank to make sure i had enough for the next leg. Part of this is being able to read a MAP and not depending on your silly blankety blank GPS!!! BUT yes I did carry an extra 5 gal, and a lot of other extras, on that trip and dumped it in the truck when I got home!!
Now with my RAM cab & chassis 52 gal tank plus an RDS 60 gal auxillary I can play the price game and never have to worry.

I am just dumb, not totally stupid..better safe than sorry!! In planning the trip it was hard to tell exactly how far some of these town were apart and also was not sure of my fuel mileage under those conditions.

If a person was going totally off roading into the outback style boondocks he should be prepared, but for normal everyday operations, even pulling a heavy RV, fuel stops are not that far apart.

I have 32 gallons now not 35 like my 11 Dually. Even with the 35 gallon tank I fueled adding over 35 gallons a couple times. When you are towing at 75 in 40mph head winds the mileage will be BAD!

I am not interested in having a in bed tank. Maybe a larger stock location tank.
