Does anybody know the size pipe thread on the lift pump inlet line that comes off the fuel heater. I want to take the fuel heater completely off the truck and simplify the the fuel lines.

It's probably a good idea to remove the fuel heater from the assembly and keep the prefilter. It protects the lift pump. That's simple to do. Use a 17mm socket to remove the pre-filter and an 8mm allen wrench to remove the fuel heater. Then the pre-filter will bolt right up without the fuel heater.

That is what I wanted to do. I might just run an aftermarket prefilter instead of the stock prefilter just to get rid of some clutter down there.

Actually the stock setup will take less room than an aftermarker pre-filter. The stock pre-filter mounts on the same two screws that the lift pump does.

If you would like a copy of my write up about the fuel system e-mail me at -- email address removed -- It has a picuture of the fuel heater/pre-filter assembly without the fuel heater.

Lift pump inlet is 3/8" pipe thread. When I ran -8AN lines to the lift pump on my '96 I used a 3/8" to JIC fitting, looks pretty much like this one.

I finally got around to removing my fuel heater today... looked completely fine, doesn't look like it had any air leaks in it whatsoever (130K miles). Do I need to worry about the fuel temp pickup? I just kind of left it hanging there when I unplugged it from the heater. Anything to worry about there??

You can't see an air leak. When my fuel heater failed it looked great until I drilled out the rivets and looked inside. When I submerged the whole mess in a bucket of water and put some air to it there were a LOT of bubbles from the electrical connector. Even after I knew where to look I could not see the leak unless bubbles were coming out of it. You can remove the temp sensor. Just two little torx screws hold it in place. It's not in a hole. That's a depression in the metal, no hole. The harness to the fuel heater is pretty short. You can unplug it from the main harness.

Right now I run a 6AN line from the stock filter housing to the pump. What I want to do is ditch the stock filter and run a 6AN line from the stock lift pump to a fleetguard housing with a Racor filter (2 micron)

What is the thread size coming put of the pump? 5/8th's flare to a 6 AN!
