I usually try to stay away from the political stuff on here but really, what do ya'll think of this? I didn't catch it yesterday but saw the story on the news today. In my opinion, I have no problem with them being opposed to action in Iraq, that's their right but to go on foreign soil, to a nation that is openly hostile towards us and basically look like 2 Iraqi spokespeople?!

Uh, one of them - Thompson? - is from St Helena, CA - right up the valley from Napa. I didn't see too many muslims when I drove thru St Helena a couple of weeks ago.



I'm not sure what to think about this. On one had I say screw Iraq & the UN. On the other I'm not totally convinced unilateral action by the US is the way to go.

My feeling about it is that they are either pretty brave or very stupid to visit an enemy country. To declare them traitors, and revoke their citizenship is something I'd expect to hear from someone in the last stages of Alzheimer's.

I say we all should go over and spend some time with the people of Iraq, maybe then we would find it a little harder to drop a bomb on them.



America has this moral dilema. We will not go in and take the snakes head off (Saddam) immoral, but we will go in and kill thousands to get to the snake. Much more moral. Anyone who can seek a peaceful solution, more power to em! I think it took guts to go over there at this time.

Once again I agree with CF (this has to stop). Why can't we "surgically" remove Hussein and those like him without blasting the crap out of regular folks?



I think that Brother Jesse should have went with the Dems to Iraq. That would have solved everything.

Do not let the peacenics of this world fool you into thinking that Hussain can be a part of the Eutopian world you seem to think is still possible.

BUT... ... . Why does everyone think we are going to kill millions of people??????? During Desert Storm we killed soldiers I can't deny that. But for all the fire power we had there, we could have wiped the place clean. America showed great restraint. I am sure there were civilian casualties, I don't claim to know the number but don't believe it to be over several hundred.

Now look at the Twin Towers... ... over 2800 CIVILIANS dead. Sadam did not do it but everything reported, even by the left leaning press, says he had a hand in it. Yes we could surgically remove him, but the chance for more of our service men and women dying is increased.



I have to concur with Sdalton, war is not pretty. I am amazed that some folks here would believe those in the U. N. . They don't give a rats rear about America. It seems that some here (no names mentioned) have an easier time believing sadam and his henchmen over a used car dealer. Meaning they scrutinize (sp) a $15,000. 00 truck deal harder than they do our national security interest.

We didn't finish the job. I once talked to a guy who claimed he was there and had SH in his sights twice and got the order to stand down.



Now that SH knows how bad we want him, he will hide under a pile of civilians. If we go after him with full military might, we WILL kill thousands of civilians. Their military force is negligible, our people proved that in '91.



What happened to good intellingence on the crackpot's whereabouts and movements? If Arafat can be found, Hussein can be found as well.



Also, we have a way that would not endanger ANY of our military people: ICBMs Turn the whole place into glass. That would make us look reeeeal good.

According to recent computer facial recognition studies the real Saddam hasn't shown his face since 1996. They have identified four fake Saddams. For all we know he may already be dead.

Main concern

Our main concern right now is Al Queda, not Saddam. We have cells right here in the US that are or are not being watched. We have cells in Iran, Pakistan, Libya, Maylaysia, and every other country in the world. Yet we want to invade Iraq, why? Because someones Daddy had a threat to his life at one time? Because there are know Al Queida cells there? Or is it because there might be a chance to grab a little oil and have some more military bases over there not in control of the Saudis?



If we think our security can be solved by taking out Iraq, we are sadly mistaken. If we think that this war can be fought the same as the last ones, we are sadly mistaken. And if we think that Saddam is the only evil we have over there, think again. It is just the easiest to invade. And we have a perfect excuse. And for every civilian we kill in this excercise, we will have ten Al queda recruits go over.



Are these the same Kurds that have been living with Al Queda training camps in there backyard? We have inteligence that has put camps in Iran, why don't we take Iran? After that we can go after Libya. Violence is a way of life over there and will be for a long, long time to come, lets join the ranks that have been beaten down over there. England, France, Spain, Russia, Germany, and how many others? I guess some people don't look at history or the big picture, just today and the Bubba with a grudge.



I have to ask myself how many people have really seen war? "Not pretty" is not what comes to mind when I remember war. Please, if I get killed by Al queda, don't start a war in my name, start peace.

Ok, before this degenerates into the usual personal conflicts back and forth as is pretty much the norm on these types of topics (thus the reason I usually stay away from them) let's try to steer this thing back on track a little.



The question was, "What do ya'll think of these two guys going over onto foreign soil and making the statements they did?" We're getting into debating the whole Iraq question as a whole and I think that's healthy for the whole country. I think it's fine that the Congress debates this issue and in fact would say it's their duty to debate this issue (as long as it's not just political posturing). A politician who is, to be quite honest about it, not one of my favorites was on tv tonite (Sen. McCain) and I had to agree with him 100% He said he has no problem with debating this in Washington and he himself enjoys disagreeing with the President but that it was absolutly dispicable that these guys go over to Iraq and do it. I think ya'll are familiar enough with Sen. McCain to know that he doesn't exactly tow the Republican Party line so he's not schmoozing here.



So without getting too much into what we should do with Saddam, what do ya'll think of these guys going over there and giving AlJizzer a nice juicy story to play back all over the Muslim world?

I kind of think that the Politicians SHOULD HAVE HAD more brains than to say crap like that..... especially on forign soil.

I was too young, but if you'd like to make a comparison, Hanoi Jane was a dumb kid when she did waht she did. I aint defending her for what she did and said either.

Congressmen should be smarter than that,even if they dont agree with the President.

I dont think it's a hanging offence, but I'd dam for sure would like to have an investigation to find where their loyalties really lie.

Ahhhh, help me I can't stop myself. I was not gonna get into this, but one of those statements that Patriot said was just a little to much for me. You may not be defending her but what hanoi jane did was not a stupid kid or childish thing! She was full cognizant of what she was doing. She went to a country that was an enemy (or diametricaly opposed for those sensitive types) and aided their efforts against the the American military, individual fighting men and cost Americans held prisoner their lives. She is a traitor plain and simple.

Let us also not forget what Hanoi Jane did when she visited ourr prisoners at one of the N Vietamese camps. A not was secretly passed to her by an American prisoner. She immediately gave it to one of the N Vietnamese guards. I would say that that was treason, and a hanging offense.

For a Congressman to purposely try any subvert the presidents policies and travel to side with the enemy, is sure close to that also.
