Pardon my ignorance, Gene, but you really need to explain this one to me. I just don't get where you are coming from.

Are you really doing better since GWB has been in office? Maybe you are pulling further or something, or the videos are selling better. Fill me in here.

Just looked again at the title of this thread and it seems like "Dennis Miller" and "words of wisdom" just don't mix.

Wow, Dennis Miller. There's an american hero to listen to. Right up there with Rush Limbo.

No need to apologize for your ignorance. LOL :D

The press has been blaming Bush from the day after he WON the election for this so called, "recession. "

The last two years of Clintons second term, you could see where the economy was going, if you looked.

We could have been well on the way to pulling out of it, but Daschle pulled his little trick in the Senate and screwed us again.

Now the dems in the Senate are blocking every federal judge nominee, that Bush puts up.

Even fighting the democrats every inch of the way,(why do they fight whats good for America?) and saving the free world, I think Bush will have us going the right way again, before the beginning of his SECOND term.

Am I doing better?

I got $300 back, that the Democrats would have never RETURNED to me.

Anytime I get tax relief, no matter how small, it is a good thing.

:)

Cut taxes, don't mess with my guns, keep the military strong, and I'm happy. :D

Just a quick question - which of President Clinton's appointments to courts did the Republican Congress not attempt to block? Plenty of court positions never got filled at all. The Republicans are up in arms because the Democrats learned a lesson from them - seems kinda hypocritical to me.

BTW, I was shocked as anyone when I read that list, hard to believe Miller could say anything that made that much sense.

Him or Limbaugh American heros?

No.

Just Americans using that free speech thing.

Miller's just happened to be the most intelligent thing we have heard from Hollywood in the last 100 years, so it is to be noted. LOL:D

Sounds like your more of a Hillary Clinton man :-laf Nothing wrong with the two party system and another view point is alway refreshing. I just get a kick out of how insightful Dennis can be sometimes. His humor often goes over peoples heads unless they keep up with what is going on in the world.

1. ) I was only focusing on Bush, mainly because I very strongly disagree with him and his ideas.

2. ) I do, however, think the war is necessary to get the point across, but if you notice, Bush already called off one war when Osama went into hiding. I think that the same is going to happen when Saddam does the same. Of course, gas/fuel prices need to go even farther through the roof before this happens.

3. ) Bush just wanted to compete with his father, follow in his footsteps. Bush senior had a war, so Bush junior wants one too.

4. ) It was quite a sight to see. Literally hundreds of people marching around Times Square waving huge signs and chanting, with one police officer for every 50 or so protesters. And you wonder why terrorism is such a threat - if the police didn't have to control the Americans, they could be on the lookout for other suspicious activity.

skobylenski,

Let's take this one at a time.

1. ) What ideas are those? The ones that say we are the strongest nation ever and we will make you pay the consequences for your actions? Or that he answers to a higher power than the latest polls? I for one am damn glad he has a moral compass for guidance. The same was true of his father.

2. ) What war did the president call off? Going back to his morality, the cost of gasoline will not effect his toppling of Saddam's regime. He has a conviction to do the right thing and he won't allow politics to change this course of action. I think you already know that we won't be leaving Iraq because Saddam is hiding like the coward he and Osama are.

3. ) Where do I start? The man learned right from wrong from his parents. He and George H. W. Bush have and had the guts to do what's needed. Unlike the previous president, the action will be just and swift not pandering.

4. ) The police are plentiful enough in my opinion. This is really a bigger issue than a few cops watching protesters instead of more pressing issues (not that your local flat-foot is going to thwart a terrorist attack). The Constitution gave us the means to protect ourselves via the Second Amendment. Liberals are trying to make this country into a police state by taking away our guns and adding to the police force. We shouldn't be looking to the police to "control Americans" but rather to prosecute the criminals.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Bush or Clinton economy?

If the president of the united states could ''make'' a better economy, we all would have seven CTD's in the garage-- one for every day of the week. I think that for the shock that 9-11 caused along with the fact that many of us invested in the stock market in a bunch of high tech stocks at OBSCENE levels of the earnings multiple--- well, it's a wonder that things are as good as they still are.

If anybody waits around for a President or a political party to improve their life, then they are on a fools errand.

A very wise farmer once asked me if I knew the sources of wealth for this or any other country. Here they are: mining, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, construction, and power generation. [ There is one more, but you figure it out]

Without these things there would not be even one job for a teacher, politician, or actor because there would be no wealth to support the things they do.

Now, guess which political party [if any] that I support ;)

One more thing-- has anyone noticed that some of the most silly and costly government regulations and fines are directed at the above activities? Just like the bank robber said when asked why he robbed banks-- ''That's where the money is''

Actually, the source of wealth comes from the money supply. Without it, trade grinds to a near halt. It is a plentiful supply of money that enables economies to flourish. It is a dearth of money that causes and prolongs depressions (recessions, downturns, business cycles, whatever you want to call them). And it is the central bankers who control the supply of money. And the central bankers answer to no one.

The Federal Reserve system is nothing more than a foreign-controlled central bank - the US Government has little-to-no say in its operation. Every depression, recession, bank panic that has occured in the world has been due to the international central bankers suddenly and greatly shrinking the money supply. The Great Depression of the 30's was greatly prolonged because the money supply was kept ridiculously tight.

It has been shown often throughout history that if there is a plentiful supply of cash, then everyone will have as much as he needs, trade will flourish and standards of living will increase greatly, and people will generally be quite content.

The source of wealth is money. Nothing else.

I have some questions.

1) mining, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, construction, and power generation seem to me to be the things that make the wheels go around.

2) While it is true that all of the things above, and much more, require cash, please note that the int4erest rates are low, and we are running the resses overtime to make more paper. I am not sure that these actions are helping.

3) We must now ask what year dollars we are stating values in because of inflation. We can make more money and put it out there, something else seems to controll the value of that money.

4) We are a strong nation who over several years and several administrations have allowed ourselves to become soft. Some of us have forgotten how to work for a living, some of us have forgotten the price we paid for the freedoms that we have. As a result, we have let evel doers attack our ships, blow up our embassies and destroy our buildings and kill out innocent people, because, they have a cause. It is necessary to reaffirm our status so that our children and their children don't have to carry gas masks to school.

5) This is not a political issue, it's an American issue. Most of us here grew up being able to walk the streets and not worry. We used to consider a package left in an airport an oversight and felt sorry for it's owner. We didn't need to lock out houses and could leave the keys in our cars. Can anyone find something wrong with wanting that again?

Strictly my own opinion.

AC

Please remember two things:

Who is to blame is unimportant, we are here now.

If you are not prt of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Were you a fan of the Jimmy Carter administration? You couldn't be farther from the truth. This is exactly what the economists thought in the 70's so they printed more money. All that does is devalue the dollar, not make enough so that everyone is happy. I won't even touch your idea of the fed but let's suffice it to say that they didn't have anything to do with starting or prolonging the depression.

Quick fix, or bite the bullet

I was with Acoyle until step until step 4 . I believe that our stupid foreign policies over the years have helped the causes of these idiots with bombs. It can be traced to both party's over a 100 year span! If they do not know our strength and military might by now, they are living in caves! We should not have to show them anything! We can reach out and touch ANYPLACE in the world with our weapons and they know it. Even at the militarys weakest point (according to some, the Clinton era) we could do this. A good defense is the answer, plug the holes in our borders and take a good look at our foreign policy's.

The minimum wage is another thing. I really don't think anyone could live on $5. 25 and hour. I really think that the minimum wage has to be gotten rid of. In its place, tax cuts for businesses paying more than $10. 00 per hour and heath benefits. Unions should be worldwide and should be going for the third world country's with large manufacturing bases. Get these large corps (mostly from the US) to pay a fair wage and benefits. When logistics and wages get too high of a cost, maybe they will start to bring the jobs back home. We also should be taxing the heck out of some of these corporations bringing the goods back into the US.

Tax cuts are just a quick fix, they have no long term effect, except to weaken the overall economy by putting the government in deeper debt. Investors like a government that is attempting to balance a budget. Which country would you invest in, one trying to balance a budget, or one going deeper and deeper in debt and slashing its income base?:D

I have to agree with badunit completely. Unions do nothing but cause our manufacturing jobs to relocate overseas or out of country. Minimum wage jobs are for high school kids and should stay or else we will be paying 10. 00 for a burger at mickey D's. However I will agree with CF on one thing. All of the companies trying to bring their goods back into the United States to sell after pulling the manufacturing of such items from Americans should be taxed out the wazooo. What those companies are doing is nothing short of terrorism or treason. They claim they are relocating for cheaper labor and then still sell the item for the same price when everyone knows they are getting it manufacturered for 1. 25 an hour or less. They are the ones that should be picking up the tab for our unemployed workers and welfare crowd entirely. We as a population have the power to somewhat control that. It's called selective shopping. I make it a point to not purchase items made out of country. I've often thought of opening a business that deals in nothing but American made products.

I live in the greatest country in the history of civilization and it only seems to get better. I live in a free nation with the best people on the planet. I get to decide everyday what "I" want to do and when "I" want to do it. I have all the money I need to get the things I need but not quite enough to get everything I want. Most of the statements made so far could of been stated 30 years ago and the sky has not fallen. We now live in a world economy. When someone in China sneezes we catch cold. (kinda like that new SSARS that is going around the world) Count your blessing and go out and try and help a neighbor today.

Unions are a neccessary evil.

The last 4 union-company contracts I've seen, the company was attempting to cut our benifits by huge amounts.

Only through solidarity, and a 4 week strike did we not lose those benifits.

Each strike I've seen, the company Public Affairs puts out to the media "Look how much money we're offering these greedy workers", never "Look how we're attempting to hose them on benifits, and job security".

PS what good is a $50 a week raise, if your health care premiums go up $75 a week and your job is "Subcontracted" a month later?

Champane Flight,

The minimum wage was not created for people trying to support a family. The only people making minimum wage are the teenagers at the local market. Anyone able to think through a process should be able to understand that if you raise the minimum wage, you will take away jobs. Say you own a parts store and you can afford to hire four kids to run parts and stock shelves at minimum wage (let’s use $5. 00 for easier math). Would you agree that if the minimum wage went to $10. 00 like you propose, you would only be able to afford to keep two of the kids and fire the other two? Are you going to raise your prices and become uncompetitive to cover the costs? Your business won’t be around long after.

Minimum wage hurts the very people it purports to help: the lower skilled workers. Hiking that wage will do nothing to corporations with a semi-skilled or better work base as their wages are well above the minimum already. It will only impact the mom and pop businesses and as we all know, the small business is the backbone of our economy.

Having said that, I realize that there are some people out there that are trying to raise a family on the minimum wage but I offer that it’s their own doing. Everyone has choices in life and some people just don’t get it. If they had any education, they could be trained to do a more meaningful job and hence, earn a better wage.

You said, “Tax cuts are just a quick fix, they have no long term effect, except to weaken the overall economy by putting the government in deeper debt”. Whoa. Do you remember the lesson taught to us by Ronald Reagan? He cut the taxes drastically and DOUBLED the government’s income. That’s because he made it worthwhile to invest in new businesses. The top tax bracket was 75% when he came into office. Who the hell would want to earn more than $50,000 if it all went to the gov’t? There was no incentive to work harder in order to earn more money. That sounds like communism to me. Tax cuts do NOT cut the income base and believe it or not, being in debt actually leverages your money better. It’s a common accounting ratio called the equity multiplier.

I do agree with you on one point, the minimum wage needs to go. Let the market set the price for what a days work is worth. If you can’t do any better than cutting grass or pushing a broom, then you don’t make as much as someone who can balance a ledger.

Positive test for terror toxins in Iraq

http://www.msnbc.com/news/895185.asp?0cv=CA01

In an operation timed to coincide with the war on Iraq, U. S. special operations forces have targeted Ansar al-Islam’s militants in northern Iraq. Hundreds of Islamists, including al-Qaida fighters who took refuge in northern Iraq after the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan, have been killed.

MSNBC.com’s samples of ricin and botulinum, two deadly biological agents, were taken from the soles of a boot and a shoe recovered from the Sargat camp. The facility has been flattened by several Tomahawk cruise missiles, fired as part of the U. S. campaign against Ansar al-Islam.

The thick rubber boot twice tested positive for ricin, a toxin derived from castor beans. Ingesting a pinch of ricin, which causes shock and respiratory failure, can kill a human being within 72 hours. There is no cure
