Depth of database

Are all threads ever created on this site still in the database, or is the database pruned periodically, with some criteria in mind, determining what is retained?



Given the time, some forums are not very deep and I was wondering if I am missing something, like an archived collection or other place.

Don't know how far back it goes, but things are archived.

The database isn't ever pruned. What you need to do is scroll to the bottom of the thread list and change the "From the" from "last 10 days" to "beginning" - then you'll see all of the threads in that forum. Some forums were created sooner than others so they'll have fewer posts but there are currently 1. 25 million posts and 129,807 threads in the database going back to 1999 (there are 784 pages of threads in the 2nd gen forum for example). Posts prior to December 2000 are all under the username archive because a previous webmaster had pruned the database because of performance problems the site was having and I had to restore them from an old back from different software which would have made it extremely difficult to import them back under the proper usernames but they are all there.
