The Models: D/F 28KS-Ragen FS 3000. I'm looking at these two and I'm confused. Every one says if it's a toy-hauler, Desert Fox is the best. I'm asking because a good price deal on a 2008 FS 3000 came up locally.

RV Consumer group, which seems to be the accepted guide, rates the Ragen better than the D/F in Hwy. control and about equal in all else.

I know Ragen is out of business, but if buying used you get no warranty what's the difference?

Both are at the upper end of what my truck is rated for but if I want a toy-hauler I'm gonna tow heavy at that size. Will the extra axel help or hurt?

How about opinions and facts from you guys. I'm not going to live in it but I will pull it from AZ. to NY. for the Summer and back in the Fall.

It's got to go on the bumper. I need the bed for two 100 Lb. dogs... . and the trailer gets my 900 lb. GoldWing.

Overall Desert Fox is a very well built trailer, we bought a 23' toyhauler new in '06 and did see the following issues:

-AC install was goofed up, got very little air through coach ducts but worked fine when you just opened the vent on the unit itself. Dealer resolved/corrected install issues under warranty.

-Black tank very hard to empty, dealer & factory rep resolved under warranty by adding a full side-to-side brace that prevents a full tank from creating a "belly" or sagging in the middle.

-furnace outlets installed about one inch from the back of dinette seat, dealer disconnected that outlet and added one that would blow into living area.

no other major complaints since we got all the new build items addressed.

cheers!

oh yeah, I think the 28' comes with 16" wheels so you can mount LT tires... . my 23" came with 15" wheels so I'm screwed untill I pony up the extra $$ for new wheels (looks like they will fit at least)

I have a 2003 30' 5th wheel Ragen Toybox. National RV went out of business not too long after I purchased it, was kind of upset.

I have not had one single problem, there could be some extra isulation in a few spots, under the front bunk(bsmt), and a better seal around the ramp. Overall, quality seem good, cabinets are solid, all latches work, drawer hardware is all in tact, and it is laid out well. If I have any complaint, it would be, this is heavy, at least the hitch weight feels heavy compared to other trailers I've towed, actually haven't weighed it too compare.

I cannot speak to Desert Fox, other than they "look nice", but I would not shy away from another Ragen.
