The first pull this structure will be in effect is Stoneboro, PA July 15th.

What for? So they could float on it down the return road? :-laf

Glad you mentioned that tarp, however. Serious Diesel Performance is looking into sponsoring a tarp, or part of a tarp.

The only drawback is you have to have rain to get your name noticed.

haha funny gene, you could tarp the track while it is idle, hmm more sponsors, more money, but really, a couple tarps could have saved you from buyin 6 tons dry bulk concrete. because you coulda tarped it 2 days before irp when the real rain came. if it woulda been tarped sunday before it rained we coulda stayed late and pulled under the lights. Now if we could just set up ez up canopys from one end of the drag track to the other everyone would be happy... ... ... ...

Now, let me clear this up, because what Nathan is saying seems to be the common belief from the ignorant who were not there.

We were hit in the middle of BUILDING the track with back to back typhoons. Even if we had the chance to tarp the track, at that point, nothing would have held it down, with 60+MPH gusts of wind.

And no, a tarp would not have helped Sunday, either, because of the bad drainage at IRP. After everyone left, and the rain slowed up, the track itself was virtually an island.

Which means, it was totally saturated from the sides. That is another downfall of building on blacktop, the water runs right to you.

And I fully expect to see at least 100 volunteers there next year, to help cover the track with Nathans tarp, 2 days ahead of time while it is being built. :D

Gene,

I think the real issue of not tarping the track on sunday was raised because no one can predict how much rain will fall and how quick. If the track had been tarped when it started to rain or just before, had it just been the first rain shower there was a definite chance to pull again. I do agree that it may not have been possible to pull later in the evening, but there should have been an effort made to at least try to save the track especially since Eric told me that you guys had plastic sheeting to cover it with waiting in the wings.

A little shower would not have hurt it, one bit. If it was more than a little shower, we knew we were done, tarp or no.

Did you price one with DPS on it, yet? :)

I understand completly sleddy how it goes when building a track, been there a few times watching the sky wondering if we should disk or just leave the track alone since it was capped. You all did a fine job, the track seemed to be in great shape and coming around nicely on saturday. The drainage at irp did suck, the whole place was under 4 in of water after the downpour sunday. move thepull back to muncie and we wont have to build a track on pavement, or just rip up the pavemment and ground below while the owners at IRP arent Watching. :-laf

gORP just doesn't have the same Diesel feel Muncie did. Seems like things went from 'too cramped' to 'too spread out'.

My . 02 (or less) as hard as it rained Sunday nothing would have saved the track.

greater O'reilly Raceway Park "gORP". It's not called IRP anymore. :(

The 'greater' part is a 'lil creative license... :D

Still fuming about trying to find info at their website "irponline" and getting absolutely nothing but NHRA drag racing results... . no info on "IRP" at all.

Gene-You are the one who's ignorant. All I've heard is excuses. Fact IRP was a failure. The track was the worst I've seen. If I would've traveled from out of state I would have been furious! But you just keep blowing it off like it's no big deal. The tech sucked... what happened to sfi-spec? The more I've talked to people, the more stuff I've found out wasn't checked or went through anyways. What's up with that? Your new payouts may be to late.

Joe, your opinion might mean something, if you haven't been squawking since day one that ALL the Thunder in Muncies have been a failure.

And it just isn't true.

Shoot, even the first one with pulls that you tried to run, wasn't too bad.

Of course, if Lorretta Mitchell wouldn't had been there to show you how to put trucks in order, the pull may have never happened. :-laf :-laf

The fact is, Bullballs, that most guys were issued a logbook after an extensive initial inspection at the beginning of the season. A quick glance in thier book to see what is lacking and verification of those issues being rectified are all that was needed in tech.

Attention to detail Joe, attention to detail. There is more going on than what you hear from others. It necessitates getting all the facts before damning a program.

I personally thought the track was good for hauling in dirt, getting caught in a massive downpour, building ontop of pavement, on a budget which im sure is pretty limited. We all gouge sleddy about the track being tarped but I dont really think it would have made much difference in this situation. i thought this pull was well organized, and well ran, definitley way better than many I have attended that were sanctioned by other groups. I also doubt IRP was a failure, just cut a tiny bit short by a MASSIVE downpour.

If you count gains in attendance, and ROI for money spent on advertising, there might just be some hard data to prove that things may need to be changed for next year. I am not sure that the small gains in gate attendance this year justify the massive expense of raceway park when there are other less costly venues that will still offer every thing we need to accomodate everyone comfortably. My fear is just exactly what I told McBride, raceway park costs way too much for the number of spectators that actually attend, and the weather has turned people away two years in a row. How many people that are just there to watch will give the event a third chance? I have heard from another DHRA official that the gate count was only up a couple hundred from last year. I realize that was just a preliminary figure, but still that number should have been a couple thousand higher at a minimum to show the kind of growth DHRA needs to justify a 100k expense for little return.

Well if I have any say so----Ill keep it at IRP. If the attendance is growing your going in the right direction. There are cheaper smaller venues but everybody seems to forget about the other issues besides the actual pulling. Some drag racers had some runs left and the track was to wet for them-----should they have coverd that also. There is no-one more disapointed than me,my truck broke on the line in qualifying and I still have yet to get a hook on it due to the heavy flooding in the northeast and I drove 700 miles to IRP and Im not blameing DHRA. This is the 1st time I have not feared leaveing my 70,000 dollar truck at the track instead of the hotel where I can gaurd the darn thing. That facility has alot more to offer than alot of others. If you guys are not happy with it then move on go someplace else and stop crying. But I have a feeling all the guys that are complaining will be there next year anyway. And it may be to late for the purse money to be raised if your not winning anyway----but lets ask Chris Whatson if he feels that way-bet he likes the idea its getting raised. Buy the way great job Chris trucks kickin butt this year. Maybe you guys should start your own pull the same weekend as IRP next year let DHRA see how its done. Id like to see your turn out.
