I have a 2016 3500 Diesel. Can anyone suggest the best diagnostic code reader to use to check my truck? I have one that I use on my other vehicles, but it doesn't give me any information on my diesel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like Alpha OBD with OBD port Bluetooth. You can clear codes, change or add many dealer options and all for about $125 on Amazon.

Cheers, Ron

I want to mention if you get the MX OBD Bluetooth it has a great maintenance app that comes with it.

I haven't played with my ALFA reader much, used it more on my 2014 Wrangler than my 2017 Ram 5500.

Anhoo, please share what you get and first impressions.

Cheers, Ron

I am going to show my total technology ignorance, so bear with me. I looked for the Alfa OBD on Amazon and found no reader, just software. I tried again and thought I was ordering an Alfa reader, but they sent me an iCarsoft reader/diagnostic tool. Can anyone tell me if this is has ever happened to them and if they have any knowledge on this diagnostic reader? Thanks again for your help.

Google play and look for AlfaOBD if you are using an android device. http://www.alfaobd.com/ if you are using and windows pc. if you are using Ijunk stuff, by a cheap android tablet like a kindle fire and see the beginning of the paragraph.

This one has worked fine for me as a code reader and the free and paid Torque App. I've had it many years and it has worked well not a lot of issues, every once in a while the phone acts up but never a big deal.

Amazon product ASIN B005NLQAHS
I also have a more expensive one.

Then I also have the security bypass cable for the 2018 and up...

Does anyone know if this works with Android? It appears the OBDlink MX+ doesn't work with Android. OBDlink MX+ works only with Apple ios?

MX or MX+ will both work with AlfaOBD on Android. Only difference between the two is MX+ also supports Apple.

I can't get it to work with android. I've tried all the Bluetooth settings. I also found a video that says the MX+ doesn't work with adroid.

I guess at 1:19 mind he says MX+ doesn't work with Alpha OBD?

I should have gotten the MX?

I use MX+ with AlfaOBD. Don't believe everything you see on you tube. You don't need the MX+ if you are not using a Apple product so you can save a few dollars by getting a straight MX.

Do you use apple or Android. And if you use android; which dongle do you choose in the alfaOBD app?

My $9.95 generic works exactly the same as the MX+ I purchased for AlfaOBD. I thought it was my generic dongle at first, but it turns out I was not waiting long enough after each change. I wasted the $89 for the MX+.
I'm using a Samsung Android tablet.
