Gas vs Diesel in a Mower?

The only threat I heard was one they played repeatedly during the interview. Some guy had called in to a radio show and said "let's strap natalie maines to a bomb and drop her on Baghdad". That was a comment made in bad taste, but if they are extrapolating that into threats on their lives, I smell sensationalism.

During the interview, she referred to threats made to her family in Lubbock, and one of the sisters commented on threats made to one of there grandparents. I haven't kept up with them so that's all I know of.

CF likes Neil Young - that explains alot. Whoever though Neil could sing must've been smoking crack or half deaf. Didn't know they even had crack back then (Sorry CF, I had to;) )

I think Texas is ashamed the Dixie Dips are from Texas. That might explain why most of the Texans got their panties in a knot over this. He!!, I'm ashamed their from Texas, and I don't even live there (yet).

What

I think what bothers me most about the American people right now is the fact that everyone is on a patriotic high that rivals a crack high. The whole thing reminds me of the McCarthy era. It also reminds me of Germany in the beginning of WW-2. Were we that much in need of a patriotic climax? Do we really need to flex our military might to feel proud of our country? Anybody who disagrees with the present leaders are traitors, to be branded and not deserving to be listened to? It is truly sad that America the land of the brave has turned into America the land of the scared of anyone with differing opinion. To even think of threatening someone because of their opinion is ludicrous and reeks of ignorance.

Myself, I respect their right to say/think what they want, even in a foreign country, apparently so does our president during his last interview. Since when does it matter where you are when you speak your mind (unless of course you are in North Korea) and they wern't having a concert in Baghdad for Saddam at the time. I also respect the rights and the opinions of all on this web site. I would never threaten you or boycott your posts because of your political views. So why is this so different? Because they have offended the President? He is only a man with his own opinions and a narrow view of action. I still respect him, although not his actions. Because they have offended Texas? I am sure Texas is big enough to take the hit, I have heard California take bigger hits here and live through it. Come on Texans I know you are tougher than this, to let three little girls whup your behinds with one statement.

Neil never could sing, but he writes a lot of music. Vocals are not the most important thing in music and top ten ain't where its at... ...

It is funny that most of the people that have a bone with the chicks are from Texas. :D Honestly, my wife was pro-war and was still a little peeved at the way Diane Sawyer was trying to drill them into saying something more damaging.

If I was to listen to only the musicians that agreed with my political views, I would be stuck with a real narrow musical view. I can't stand Ted Nugent's political views. Oh, I don't like his music either. :D But I respect his right to have his view and to speak it. I don't like Neil Young's political views, but love his music. I don't like most of the right wingers political views on this site. But I still respect your rights to have them, and respect you for your ideals. I would never condemn a man/woman for his political platform.

The Chicks are still sold out wherever they play. :D

ChampagneFlight, I liked the Dixie Chicks music, even had them on my buy list... . that is until they dissed our president while they where touring in Europe. IMO they were just playing to the (trying to score points with) anti-American Euro crowd. They will learn a lesson the hard way... . you don't disrespect the commander-in-chief during a war, especially when over seas. Do they have the right to say anything they please? Yes, they do, thanks to alot of blood spilled by brave American military men. These same brave military men don't need to hear their commander in chief slammed in public. IMO it is darn near treasonous. I of course will never buy anything of these Dixie Chix musicians as long as I live. I salute all the radio stations nation wide who boycott them.

BTW: I like Ted Nugents politics and his music!... Neil Young is a fried burnout... . the best thing that ever happened to him is when Lynyrd Skynyrd showed old Neil what they thought of him!

That's right Neil- Southern Man don't need him around anyhow!

WOW-CF and I agree on something- Neil Young can't sing!!!! I won't dispute the fact that he can write, maybe he should stick to that.

I guess it's shakin' out that if you like GW, you hate the Dixie Sluts, and vice versa. For the most part anyhow.

Looks like the same crap, different thread. CF and Bill on one side, everybody (almost) on the other. I'd almost be willing to bet that Bill and CF are getting shorter, growing long purple or green hair, and laughing their ***** of at all us gettin' all het up about this.....

Imagine this... a staunch conservative (me), a hardcore liberal union member (my buddy from Vegas), and a conspiracy theorist (his buddy) having a conversation about the Iraq war. My two year old ran screaming out of the room:eek:

Oh contrare

I would never be against what America stands for. In fact I am all for what America stands for. Why do you think I am so against the actions of GWB the last year? He has taken America into a new century by putting America so far in debt it will take twenty years to build another surplus. He has invaded a sovereign country (not the best sovereign country as was in dictatorship) without solid reason (another case of patriotic rose glasses). And continues to try to put us deeper in debt, while helping his rich Buddy's with a tax cut.

I guess I am a traitor, I am talking against the President on international media. If speaking out against someone who is tearing down the image of America around the world and at home, so be it! I always thought it was all American to speak out against or for our ideals. Our military must follow the Presidents orders and so would I if called. But, following and speaking out are two different things. Treason is putting the American people in danger, the words said by the Dixie Chicks were hardly treason.

Lynrd Skinerd could only hope to have career as successful as Neil. Where are they now? Playing beer joints in Alabama?

:D

Added in edit: first paragraph from CF

We were in debt with Klinton and Bush 1!!!!! There was only a surplus on PAPER, it never hit the Bank Account!!!!!

*** you are such a sham... ... . You can't keep your DEMONCRAT lies in order. The reality of the past 10 years is coming home to Roost. Since you are such an asstute economist please explain how taxing success at up to 55% will help this country.

I patiently await your reply.

P. S. Just so you don't think I am one of those rich buddies of Bush 2, my adjusted gross was a little over $55,000. 00 this year for my wife and I.

[[These same brave military men don't need to hear their commander in chief slammed in public. IMO it is darn near treasonous. ]]

I agree! So when do the treason trials start for the Republicans that continued slamming President Clinton whilst we had troops in Kosovo and Bosnia? Those operations are just as much a war (i. e. , undeclared by Congress) as Iraq.

Hold on there big fella - who said Daschle and Pelosi were my heroes? I'll defend Senator Daschle against the attacks of the loony right, but he's not my hero. Nancy Pelosi is a little too far to the left for my tastes, but she's not an extremist.

Lumping moderates with communists is funny - but it means the argument is about attacks, not facts. It'd be the same as lumping all the flag-waving, God-fearing nationalistic Republicans with Nazi Germany.

CF, your quote: "Treason is putting the American people in danger, the words said by the Dixie Chicks were hardly treason.

Lynrd Skinerd could only hope to have career as successful as Neil. Where are they now? Playing beer joints in Alabama? "

Response: When you put down the commander in Chief during a war, and say this is an unjust war that we shouldn't be fighting etc... on a public stage, knowing full well that these comments will be heard world-wide... . IMO this puts our troops in danger! All it takes is a couple of young impressionable soldiers to hear these comments and second guess their commander, then their officers etc... In the heat of battle you can't be second guessing! You must be focused and it helps to have your country behind you. So yes your definition of treason fits here! They were putting Americans in danger.

Lynyrd Skynyrd tragically lost 1/2 of the band including lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt in a Plane crash in 1978(?)... Over the years the remaining members have picked up the pieces the best they could, They lost another member of the original band last year the Bass player had a heart attack and passed away. Johnny Van Zandt fills in for Ronnie on lead vocals a couple members from the "outlaws" fill in and they make the best of a bad situation. They still sell out large venues and have a huge following... . I saw them twice in the past 2 years, at the Universal Ampitheater, Los Angeles and at the House of Blues Hollywood... both places were packed and they sounded great. Too bad I missed their Las Vegas show !

And the Republicans doing the same thing to President Clinton during Kosovo and Bosnia? Seems to me the Democrats are using the Republican's script - and the Republicans are whining "No fair!" Just like after the Republicans blocked all those judicial nominations - but suddenly it's not fair that the Democrats are doing the same thing?

Lon, It was wrong then and is wrong now... . and two wrongs don't make it right. BTW: I think partisan politics sucks! I wish our elected officials were more independent in their thinking and their voting, instead of following party doctrine!

Back when Clinton was running for his first term, Independent candidate Ross Perot was running a very strong campaign. At one point he was even with Clinton and Bush Sr. , in the polls... . he later announced he was pulling out of the race, then decided to get back in... . this cost him any chance at winning the election. But I feel, that would have been the best thing for America to have an Independent President (not that I really think Perot was a savior, but at least he was independent) as our leader. It may have ended partisan politics, maybe our legislative bodies would vote with their hearts and not along party lines.

The difference was that I do not remember the Republicans comming out and denouncing the actions of Klinton during those U. N. Actions. Or during the times Klinton acted without the OK of the U. N. . During times of conflict, the Republicans kept quiet. Not so for the Demokrats. You Democrats could care less how just anything that Bush does is. You will slamm him, slander him, make up rediculous diagnosises about him, and p!ss on him any way, anywere, and anytime. Bitter Bitter Loosers. You will Be the same Bitter loosers in 2004.

I attribute the Reps. dislike of Kosovo action and the Dems. dislike of Iraq action as simple partisan politics. "Ooooh, the other party's President started a fight, I'm going to make him look bad. "

Where were all of the hollywood wackos during the Kosovo action??? I guess they didn't want to protest the actions of "their" President. They feel so wronged that they couldn't sway the vote of the dumb masses so far that another weak liberal dufus could get in, that they are on a crusade to nail Bush43. I guess they feel that if they do their best to discredit the Republicans enough, they might get their dream: a liberal President who might even legalize marijuana.

Do the veins on your head bulge when you type? Just checking. Deep breath, relax - just tell yourself that it's somebody elses opinion. The Republicans never ever stopped attacking President Clinton, no matter what the armed forces were doing. As to "Us Democrats", when'd I ever say I was a Democrat? Give me a good moderate Republican and I'll happily vote for them. As to 2004, I guess we'll have to be patient and see what happens. I firmly believe Bush43 will lose if he can't get the economy going again - no matter how many countries he attacks.

No, they didn't sway the vote of the Supreme Court that decided the election. The dumb masses had their choices made for them.

As to legalization of marijuana, that's a different subject altogether. Myself, I'd like to see it made legal under strict regulation for medical purposes only. Plenty of people with cancer and glaucoma that could get relief and appetites with marijuana or extracts thereof.

Personal Attacks

This thread has been reported to me by two users. Seems many of you feel it has become a personal assault between a small group of members. I agree.

Keep your comments directed at the topic, not at other individuals. Or you risk losing posting privileges.

I deleted one post. That forced me to make minor edits to a couple of other posts for them to make sense. No content has been modified in any way.

Conservative Republican, patriotically correct Bruce Springsteen supports Dixie Chicks... time to blackball him too

"To me, they're terrific American artists expressing American values by using their American right to free speech," Springsteen writes. "For them to be banished wholesale from radio stations, and even entire radio networks, for speaking out is un-American. "

Illflem, I have never heard Bruce Springsteen described as a conservative republican. But, what is wrong with radio stations and networks, that listen to their customers and not play the Dixie Chicks. Should we take away their freedoms ? Or should they be able to decide what music they play?

The Dixie Chicks made their bed... .
