Advantage diesel. Because diesel fuel is easier to refine, taking less time to get from raw petroleum to final product than gasoline, it's usually priced lower than gas. However, occasionally in the U. S. , diesel is priced the same or more than 87 octane gas. This is often attributed to the fact that diesel isn't as desirable in some areas leading to higher diesel prices. However, diesel advocates say that if more people drove diesel light trucks and cars, the price would drop dramatically in these areas—and possibly throughout the country.

BREAKDOWN OF A GALLON OF FUEL



* The two largest costs in diesel fuel (70-90%) are controlled by governments (crude price & taxes)



* Crude oil prices vary with supply and demand from $10 to over $50 per barrel



* We approximate that the part of the diesel fuel price that comes from crude is "crude price divided by 42 gallons per barrel plus about $0. 04 per gallon"



Note: Calculated out this means that $10 per barrel crude results in diesel at about $0. 26 per gallon while $35 per barrel crude results in about $0. 76 per gallon diesel



* Federal Taxes on diesel fuel are currently $0. 24 per gallon (including $0. 04 from the 1993 tax increase)



* State Taxes vary by state from $0. 10 to $0. 30 per gallon for diesel fuel



* Transportation, jobbers and dealers vary by distribution network from $0. 05 to $0. 15 per gallon diesel fuel

Based on the above numbers, using worst case pricing for all catagories, I calculate that a gallon of #2 should be selling for $2. 05 / gallon. Again, that assuming $50 / barrel and worst case taxes, transport, etc. I think that crude has been above $50 lately, so that would explain some (but not all) of the higher prices.

Yep, $60. 54. At least in the NW the price isn't exploding to insane prices like it did last time crude shot up. Only paying about $2. 40 now instead of $2. 80 - $2. 90 a few months ago.

Where in our summer blend mode down here,IE C4 (butane) pulled from each blend we're having to import finished blend stocks from japan and else where to meet demand!!!!.
