Rising Fuel Prices - Are You Driving Less?

just checked flying J's website for fuel in my area, 3. 05/gal of gas 3. 75/gal for diesel, WTF is going on. people are easing their use of heating oil this time of year, I am just wondering what is the latest excuse for the diesel price going up so much faster than gasoline. are they using high diesel prices to subsidize gas prices so consumers don't freak out??

I think its is their way of steering people away from efficient fuel consumption. Because the LAST thing the oil companies want is LESS oil consumption. Just my thoughts. Diesel= costs less to produce and vehicles that burn it are more efficient than equivelant gas burners. So punish the Diesel crowd! Makes a ton sense!

Yup, just down the street regular=$3. 19 and diesel=$3. 89:mad:

This is truly disgusting. It's like paying more for a bag of rocks than a bag of Portland cement... just no sense to it.

When i bought my pickup #2 was a quarter less than regular. the good ole days... But im feeling it now. Too bad our government doesnt feel our pain and cut the fuel taxes down.

Wheres the congressional investigation? Right, like the one after Katrina when the fuel jumped to $1. 50 less than it is now. Whats the reason? How bout a reality check. Should be a BIG campaign issue.

No politician right now in this political season wants to kick a "gift cow" at this point in time.

How many working class types are in the Congress and Senate. I doubt few. So how can they really represent the majority of Americans?

ok so noone has even given the latest excuse, is there one?? I understand fuel going up oil is going up, but why diesel at such a disproportionate rate??

If you really look at what were paying, were actually paying about a $1 more per gal than regular if you throw in that diesel should be . 30 to . 40 cents cheaper than regular.

The same old bull about the increased cost to refine ULSD, but if that is the case, why didn't we see this HUGE increases 1+ yrs ago? HMMMMM?

About a dozen years ago in Ca, when the diesel prices spiked, truckers were quite vocal with regards to the impact on them. The news organizations frequently covered their demonstrations.

I think it was at "that time" the fuel surcharge was "invented. " The cost of these price increases was simply and directly passed on to the end consumer. The latter solved many of the truckers concerns and became a accepted cost of doing business.

I think this is one reason why there has not been much attention paid to the rising cost of diesel by the news organizations as the aforementioned truckers may have found away around this problem years ago?

My driving habits are severely curtailed and thus the "pain at the pump" is somewhat manageable. However I am keenly aware of the rising cost of goods at the stores ( I still eat on a regular basis ) delivered in part by diesel burning trucks. This fact, I think, has largely been overlooked by the politicians and news media.

"Why is diesel now more expensive than gas?" I would suggest it is because the large public outcry of years ago is lacking. Thus allowing the oil monopolies to sustain a "high diesel price and profit" without too much negative fanfare.

Just a thought.

The local station where I fill up is not has no employees and is charge account only. There price is always 5-10 cents cheaper. On the monthly bill all taxes are listed seperately with a total at the bottom. My last fill up of just over 1/2 a tank the taxes totaled over $14. Since then diesel is up 21 cents to $3. 84, about 7 cents less than others in town.

I just payed $4. 139 for diesel gas was $3. 299. $0. 84 difference here I think someone is making a little change. Near Clarion PA

The end is here. I saw three different stations here in central NJ where the price of diesel was 1. 00 more than the cost of unleaded reg. 3. 99 to 2. 99.....complete and total gouging.

Yesterday, the price of super unleaded went to the same price as diesel here, $3. 80. The spread here is 60 cents on regular and diesel.

Not to be the one seperated from the pack, but it isn't going to get better. I already do what I can and get 19-22mpg. It usually all comes down to supply and demand. BUT, we have the largest supply we have had in 15 years. Oil prices are going up because people are buying it as a commodity. That alone will continue to drive up the price. Buying less won't help, the supplies are there. If your truck is paid for, it is still cheaper than a different gas truck. If you are in the market for a new truck..... big diesels might not be the ticket anymore. As for OPEC, they decided not to change the amount of crude they pump, because supplys are high enough. If you really want to get mad, look at China or India. Their growth is sucking up much more fuel, they don't have to meet nearly so strict enviromental standards, and to be honest, they don't care. The only reason fuel prices are bothering me at all is my daily driver Jeep has a blown head gasket. Gotta love those 4. 0 motors! Good luck, but asking the government isn't the best..... 'I'm from the government, I'm here to help' don't believe the hype.

Holy Toledo. . . the average diesel price in Pennsylvania is now $4. 16  I feel for you guys! Several other states in the east are over $4. 00, Washington State just passed $4. 00.
