My friend asked me to post this question. :

03 dodge 3500; 120,000 miles, 5. 9 cummins. 1 qt of diesel gets in crankcase every 1000 miles. engine runs perfect. thx james 316 992 6935

The most common way for that to happen is that an injector sticks open. It will be a lot cheaper for him to figure out the problem than to wait for it to blow he engine which is what will happen when he runs oil diluted with diesel fuel much longer... .

Not injector stuck open, injector cracked. Huge difference. Could also be from the CP3. I've heard of that in rare circumstances.

hi i thought if extra fuel came past the injectors even raw fuel drops it would cause a runaway motor and hammer like hell the 1 cyl , i am con fused ?

One of two things is happening.

1) the injector o-ring is damaged and leaking into the valve area

2) the injector is cracked in the bodie or solonoid area

or both are a problem, yes a truck can run fine with these issues.

i guess if the fuel tubes were leaking ? then it could come up into the oil ! sorry to bother !

if a transer tube was loose it would be hard to start and would only return more fuel to the tank. it would however put fuel into the oil IF the injector bodie o-ring was faulty

I've seen crossover tube damage. Truck started and ran normally and the fuel leaked out back through the return line. It does not get into the oil unless you have a bad top o-ring on the injector as well. This can be a difficult problem to diagnose.

Thanks for the ideas. He's cleaned the injectors off with brake cleaner but sees no leakage, even while reving the engine to 2000 rpm! Could it be the only time there is leakage is when towing a heavy load?
