2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Diesel fuel in rubber line ??

Is the rubber fuel line that you buy from Autozone compatible to run diesel fuel through. Or do you need to buy special rubber line for that ??

gasoline is normally the harshest fluid on automotive hoses, so if it is rated for gasoline, it should work fine for diesel.

I bought mine at West Marine and it specified right on the fuel line that it was rated for diesel.

SAE J30R7 is the rating to look for. Most fuel line sold at auto places is this rating. Its good with diesel and can work up to 50 psi with a burst of over 100 psi.



Also you can use J30R9 which is good to something like 100 psi service and 250psi burst. Its rubber type fuel injection hose.



Cummins puts a short section of J30R9 in between the filter canister and the VP44 on 24V trucks.



Gates, Goodyear and Weatherhead are all good brands of J30R7 or R9. J30R9 is more expensive however. Both go up to 24" vacuum which is plenty. I've pulled 30" on R7 and it seemed fine.



Not all hoses rated for gasoline are good with diesel. Aeroquip wont recommend their racing hoses with diesel as they haven't tested it. Some say it swells. I've has some J30R7 soaking in a can of diesel for 6 months. Its hasn't changed at all and is fine.



The inner tube of R7 is nitrile and the outer is hypalon. Most nitrile is fine with diesel but hypalon shouldn't have long term contact with diesel. But since its the outer sheath its OK.

I've got some Gates SAE J30R7 that I am using. I am using it to run line from the fuel filter to the VP44.



My problem is that I am trying a little mod on my Max Flow Kit. One of my compression fitting developed a leak. So I removed the S. S. braided line and the compression fittings. I am now using a rubber line in its place. But the the ends on the fittings that are still on the truck are not hose barb ( which they were never meant to be anyway ), and I'm having a leak problem on the VP44 end. Even though they are not hose barb ends and they are just a smooth end, I would think that I could tighten a hose clamp tight enough to seal up to 16 psi. What Gives ????
