Are others hearing the same Cold "Classic" Diesel rattle when starting engine cold. After the truck sits all day while at work, 40-50 degrees F, I'll start engine wait until oil pressure is up and then drive away. For the 1st 2/3 blocks the engine rattles like an older diesel w/o HPCR. Is this typical?

The simple answer is yes, it's perfectly normal. The technical answer is the decreased cylinder temperature increases the ignition lag, which increases the rate of pressure rise, which causes more noise. :)

Thanks for the input. I've noticed this condition only in evenings. At morning start-up the engine has some heat due to block heater and as I stated previously it goes away consistently at 2 blocks.

I have discovered a fix for this rattle! "You must have the Infinity speakers, or above equivalent in order for the fix to be effective". Purchase a copy of the cd "Ted Nugent's Greatest Hits" go to track 4 or 5 ( I forget which) to the song "Strangle Hold" and crank up the volume. This will dissipate the rattle! Don't you just hate a smart a$$, I know I do. I do miss my neighbors 02 CTD firing up at 5 o'clock in the morning though. He should have not traded for the 03 CTD. LOL:-laf Seriously what rbattelle said I agree. :D
