Diesel Repair questions

First time diesel owner and first time Dodge owner, why I waited so long I have no excuse. Anyway, we have a 2005, 2 wheel drive, 6 speed Getrag transmission, long bed, and we are getting ready to start using this truck for some sight seeing around this country. We live in California and plan leaving the state and who knows where we might go. Just in case there is a problem, I've have been doing "Google" searches for Cummings repair stations, with no luck with finding them. I know I can go to a Dodge dealer if I need repairs, but for some reason, I think if I had an engine problem it would feel better going to Cummings, if I can. Is there a list of Cummings repair stations? Do they work on Dodge trucks? Is it a bad idea trying to use Cummings to do diesel engine work?

Searching under Cummins will get you there a lot quicker - it's not Cummings! Here's Cummins service locator - Cummins Inc. Homepage . You should be able to find one close to anywhere on there.

Didn't the '05s come with the NV5600 (New Venture) except for a few very late '05s which came with the G56 and a dual mass flywheel?

Mine has you also aren't very likely to need a repair. These engines are very reliable. Mine has over 120,000 miles and the engine is still like new. The only repairs I have had is in the signature below.

You are right, late 05s have the G56 & DMF. I saw some info that showed a Gretrag available in the 1/2 tons behind the gas engine.

The G56 as understand is a in-house trans from the German side of DC.

If you have engine trouble and you can call 1-800-Diesels for the cummins support staff. they used to be around the clock and could direct you to repair facilities or help you find parts dealers.

I live near a Cummins service center and can confirm they do work on Dodge trucks. I pass by it every day and there is usually one or two in the lot. They are not cheap, by any stretch ($90/hr, IIRC... maybe more) and neither are the parts... but if/when my truck needs major engine work, that's where it's going as I feel more confident about the training these guys get.
