I have an old 1977 240D Mercedes and I have dumped 6qts of auto trans oil in the fuel tank with only a quarter tank of fuel. Ran good. The big difference between the both engines is the Mercedes runs about 1700psi injector pressures and the common rail Cummins runs up to 23,000psi rail pressures.
