Hello all, not sure if this is the right post for rear ends. I've swapped in a 2002 dana 80 with disc into my 1997 dodge cummins. I've been really happy with it except for the limited slip clutches. Its completely useless .

I spoke to a transmission guy about getting a replacement clutch packs and he was told there are no clutches available for the D80 except to buy the entire carrier for $800 cnd #@$%!

My question here is, can the clutch packs from a D70HD work in the D80? I've checked the forums and they have mentioned several times that yes they do and they're the best set to get. Also they did say the clutch packs in the D80 are garbage from factory and are really expensive.

I'm a bit worried about the fact that the D80 carrier and ring gear are really heavy and is a pain to work with while trying to hold the bearing races on each end (I'm not a weak person, just find it unnecessary to tear apart, find they don't fit and re-install) My Goat just can't sit long enough with it's *** open just to wait for the correct parts. I use my truck a lot for everything.

Get a service manual.

It shows the clutches stacked to give a soft limited slip. You can restack them for more grip.

Thanks for replying. The D80 packs are not stacked right or done on purpose to make it behave softer than D70?
