Hi all,

Quickie question, has anyone put a 02 + diff with disc brakes in a 2nd gen (00)? the newer ones sure do pull up a lot better with the disc/disc combo rather than the disc/drum combo.

I have access to a wrecked 02 that has the the rear end undamaged, it has 3. 5 gears, anti spin, and has disc brakes. Mine has 3. 5 gears non anti spin and drum brakes.

Would this be a straight swap or would I need to mess with the master cylinder. brake controller and electrics?

Thanks

Kevin

I converted my 97 a year ago. Braking is better. I don't have anymore of that morning brake grab. It won't feel as good as the new trucks. The conversion was not to bad to do. The hard part was getting the parking brake to work with the discs. There were several different style cable configurations used on the 97. I had the one that only adjusted up on one cable. This led to an unequal actuation. I had to make my own adjuster using a turnbuckle. I also had to weld the cable guides on the calipers. So far my brakes have been great. It was money well spent.

disk in my 96

I put an 02 disk rearend in my 96 1 ton , works great bolted right in just had to shorten my e brake cable.

It will work. I have this on my truck with stock master cylinder. Just remove the rear proportioning valve. Order new rubber line from dealer for an '02 truck that goes from steel line in frame to axle. Part number is 52010174-AA cost is $32. 00

Have any of you swapped front brakes from an oo-02 2 wd 3500 to an 95 3500. I have a disk brake rear end 02 that I am swapping into the 95. I am thinking about the 00-02 front to match the rear 2 piston caliper. The spindle is different. Anyone know if the ball joints are the same size, or can be swapped?
