An RV With Adequate Suspension

Dade City FL

Aw shucks guy's twer'nt all that much.

I just wasn't in the mind to give up on what should be best in class brakes. I mean 4 pistons/caliper at maybe 1600 PSI. Can you say whoa nellie!

The big issue goes right back to the evil mcnasty air bubble and a bit of rural creative engineering to squeeze the last bubble out and then how to prove it? It came down to PSI vs. Time. You should see the hands on stuff I've worked on in clutch hydraulic systems. Hate them bubbles.

So, abandon your magnetic brakes? Heck no, just keep 'em tuned up.

But Mikey, I have seen several semi trailers sporting a bumper sticker on the back end about CAUTION REDUCED STOPPING DISTANCE, EQUIPPED WITH DISC BRAKES! or something to that effect.

Gotta hang with you guys, nobody else tolerates me.

I need a campfire. Pass me a beer and a marshmallow & stick.

Yes, air disc brakes are coming back. Drivers say that they are a helluva brake.

Any new product for a truck seems to take two tries before the bugs are worked out.

Anti-Lock brakes....tried in the late '70's. They sucked and were promptly bypassed. You might have brakes, or you might not. Never really knew when.you stepped on the brake pedal

ABS introduced mid '90's..work great and still in use today.

Tubeless truck tires...late '70's...they sucked. Would pop off the bead while turning under a load.

Tubeless truck tires...reintroduced in the late '80's with an improved rim design. Still in use to this day.

Air Disc brakes...early '00's...they sucked....troublesome, under-engineered, parts very expensive. Customer's would come in looking for repair parts and we would offer up a sympathetic "You poor *******" before assisting. Many were converted back to s-cam brakes.

Air Disc Brakes now....re-engineered,,good results so far. Have sold quite a few Disc brake units over the last two years. Parts still a little pricey, caliper will wipe out $1,000.00 or more.
Driving forces are reduced stopping distances and weight savings.

The trouble is that the Feds keep demanding stop on a dime regulations for the power units....but what about all of the older semi-trailers........

While I was at a seminar being held by a MORryde representative on suspension and braking components I asked about the E/H disc brakes and the delay that H. Barlow would complained about. He agreed that three to four years ago this was true but the product has been improved. He claimed that the pump actuator has been improved and the three to four second delay is a thing of the past with the new system improvements.

I think more research is required and maybe see what the user of the MORryde disc brake system say about using their brakes.

Jim,

Don't know about moryde systems, but that was the issue that I tried to document and hopefully prove. Not sure if you looked at my link but it has a real short video clip of my system in operation. I was watching a PSI gauge on the caliper and with video editing software determined the delay between audible pump noise and gauge response. I'm keeping my disc brakes.

I have no complaints about delays with the Kodiak disc brake system on our Mobile Suites. They are head and shoulders above the electric drum brakes on our previous 2004 Mobile Suites.

With my 07.5 MS, 2011 RAM and MaxBrake I had Zero delay and AWESOME braking. I had installed the NAPA Best SemiMetallic pads.

With the new 15 RAM and 16 MS there is a slight delay and the braking is very good. I will be bleeding the brakes and installing NAPA's best see metallic pads. That should get the job done!
