Hey guys, I have been wondering if an aftermarket intercooler (ie Spearco, BD, etc) actually makes much of a differance compared to the factory units.

As the 24v factory intercoolers already have a large surface area, does it actually change anything once installed? Has anyone done this and noticed a increase in power or boost? Is it worth the money for a 500 hp truck? Thanks!

Robert

P. S. If it helps, I am trying to decide between using a 24v intercooler or a aftermarket intercooler in my 1993 crew cab project truck (Yeah, I know the 24v unit will be a tight fit! Oo. :D ).

I have a Cooltwist from CityDiesel (Check my list) and I had to get one because my oem went tummy up at the tank connections. OEM dodge wants stupid money for the oem unit. Why not get a performance unit that can handle 3 times the bursting strength , gain some cooler egt's , and have a stronger unit that looks good too for less money (Not much less but lessER anyhow)

How much lower are egts with the cooltwist?

I think one of the biggest things is that there is far less pressure drop across the intercooler, meaning you can have less boost from the turbo and the same actual boost at the intake. this lowers air temps beforethey even get to the cooler. then it has higher cooling eficiency cooling the air even more, and the cooler the air the more dense, and the lower the egt's.

I've read that these intercoolers are suppose to lower egts 200*. I am gonna purchase one in a few weeks, but I am trying to decide which one is best for cooling temps down. I don't think the banks is as good as he claims & have heard that the cooltwist is better anyways..... I just want to see if they are really gonna lower my temps. Do they really lower egts by 200*?

Ditto! Inquiring Minds want to Know! :)

I went to a Garrett Powermax Stage III rollerbearing liquid cooled at the time so egt's could be cooler for all I know. But then again I am having egt issues anyhow (Prolly from the dead VP and bad timing)
