the first thing is:

ebay:

Don't miss out on item SAVE GAS FITS Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Cummins Diesel +31% (320339221784)

it is one of the deflectors that you put in the intake. Do they work?

second:

bed cover? what kind of milage increases? remember it needs to pay for itself in fuel savings and they arn't cheap.

The TAG claims mpg increase. I have heard and they claim an increase in towing mpg. I have a TAG 1 it is under the driver seat with the ring from the turbo.

They may save fuel but your requirement that they offset fuel savings negates any advantage unless you are traveling countless unloaded or nearly empty miles with a cover.

If you are going for mpg there other things you can do, IMO, that will give you better payback.

First look at your tires, the Michelin's that came with most of our trucks have a very low rolling resistance. When properly inflated and rotated with decent wheel alignment you are going to see more mpg. IMO tires and driving style are way more important than any aftermarket accessory you can buy.

But I bought my truck for towing, so I also changed other things to improve mileage, not that it makes much difference because of the weight and size of the trailer. My driving style changes every time I do something and the mpg stays the same

You already have a turbo to stir the air. The fuel is injected into the cylinder directly, so no baffle in the intake is going to mix the fuel and air any better than it already is. It might slightly restrict the incoming air, so you could lose a little economy.

Why would one want to put any restriction whatsoever in the path of the turbo intake? Damn near everything sold for diesel is to get stuff out of the way and to smooth the path. Same with the exhaust.

SSolderitch,

I just looked at your sig, I think the thing now holding you up is your K&N. I know my truck will suck the oil dry out of one of them :-laf

Look at gary's setup in the second post here

I also heard that a bed tool box in the bed hurts mpg? myth? I want to add one just to keep some stuff dry and not to carry around 500 pounds of tools.

I bought the truck with the k&n, I read the oil tests and I know they pass dirt... . thinking of trying a amsoil filter.

I only run the 33 tires in winter and go back to 285 in summer to help, lsd fuel seemed to cut a few mpg's. Because I have custom steel bumpers (front weights 160#) I lost the spare tire (75#), because I got on board air, a plug kit & AAA.

thank for the replies.

Better fuel milage sure if you only one fifty dollar bill for the purchase as apposed to fifty one dollar bills it will make you wight less so better miles per gal . If it sounds to good to be true it... ... ... ... . Ron

the tag does work, when we were testing things on the intake side of the turbo we broke the vanes out of the elbow, this made it worse the vanes are straightening vanes to reduce side shear on the turbine wheel we were going to replace them and dodge wanted high $ for that elbow so we decided to try the tag to replace it. it does and is better. i can see that at high horsepower it might turn to restriction but at tow power it is at its best

Mpg increases?

The box covers are about 7% better and canopys about 13% better fuel milage it will depend what you need the pickup box for?
