Got to give them credit for being Die-*Hard Chevy fans. I think If mine went out with in 1000 miles I would be looking in to something different.

How do you think they are going to feel when the engines start coming apart like a dollar and a half suitcase????????? History always repeats itself... ... ... ...

Knowing GM, that guys comment about the "underbuilt Fords and Dodges" is a real treat. If I was a betting man, I would bet that Allison is built by the GM/Dodge consortium for transmissions called New Venture Gear. Kinda like, GM Saginaw building our steering boxes. Helloooo, Which part of our truck is underbuilt, the part that isn't built by GM? What a thing to say. Yesterday, a Durapad smoked my butt at a traffic light on a four lane here. I have a 6 speed, he has an auto. He might should have left well enough alone cause he slowed down till I was beside him and then he gunned it. My baby don't take crap off those "overbuilt" GMs once she's in sixth gear. The next thing he saw was my turn signal to move over in front of him, which I did. Mine don't have to turn up to 3100 or whatever it takes to get to max HP. I can get there at about 1600 RPMs and hold it through the upper 2000 range anyway. 1750 is about 55 mph. According to the latest TDR that's about the time a GM is peaking at 230 horses. Whoohoo. I didn't have to "downshift" my underbuilt ride to go either. I heard that Allison downshift. That big old studly, overbuilt Allison. My underbuilt truck don't make horsepower off how fast the engine will turn. Mine makes it off torque. I'm sorry they are having problems. However, their continual need to slam Ford and Dodge is unnecessary. They spent the 41000 or 43000 or whatever. They need to get over it. #ad

A friend of mine got a new gas 1-ton chebby with the Allison in it. At 480 miles the transmission was dead. After a week at the dealer they told him there were 26 Allison's on back order and did not know when they would fix it. He leases the truck so they found him another one and gave it to him and moved the lease to the new one.

Well, My cousin bought a 1/2 ton Dodge when they came out with the new body style. transmission went out before it reached 500 miles. Had it replaced and 2nd one went out before 2000 miles. They bought the truck back, so he bought another truck - a 4X4 this time (they paid the difference). Trany went out before it had 10,000 miles on it.

Why tell this? We have our own share of problems - more than GM in my opinion (I've owned 3 of them). I love my Cummins, but without it, this truck is not so great.

YUP - I have to agree with Txram - of ALL the things we might criticise GM for, the failure of the A/T is about the LAST!

These Dodge trannies have been a WELL KNOWN problem since mid-'91, and it's not at ALL uncommon for some owners to be on their 3rd or 4th replacement. PLUS, we would not need to be spending NEARLY as much time and money "bombing" our trucks if Cummins hadn't HAD to detune them in the FIRST place because of drivetrain problems Chrysler was only TOO aware of!

"Accidental" component failures in a new product are ONE thing - but constant manufacturing defects involving KNOWN weaknesses and poor engineering are another thing COMPLETELY - and CC is extremely guilty of fraud and customer abuse when it comes to the automatic transmissions they have CONTINUED to foist upon customers for 10 full years!

"Dura" WHAT? NOW I know where all those recycled beer cans go...

Gary, you've got it exactly right. The owner of my local transmission shop told me if wasn't for Chrysler's automatics he'd be out of business.

The GM guys will love this! Never has their GM products been so agressively defended on the TDR! I don't care at all if they do or don't have problems because I fully intend on keeping my truck for 10-15 years. All I can do is worry about my own truck! Just bored and trying to stir up the pot! #ad

I'll be working with a great Cummins/Allison combo next week.
An ISC (C8. 3) 275 hp backed up with a B400 Allison 6 speed. That Allison trany is nearly as big as our 5. 9's.

I have the auto myself. It is going to take a vacation at the trany shop for a new VB and TC this summer. The best advise I got to prolong the life of the trany is to add Lube-Guard.

Cheers;

Frankly, I do alot of ford & chevy critizing myself, because of my love for the mighty cummins diesel. But it makes more sense to root everyone on in buying a diesel (no matter which brand) and expose them to the better running motors, than gas.

The more people who spend thousands on these trucks, help our economy & also make it harder to outlaw diesel. We really need to start burning biodiesel, were absolutely stupid to not be mixing some in at the refineries. We need to find a way to make it financially appealing to the refineries.

Just think we could sit back and watch so many more of those duracraps melt their heads off while we sit & laugh... heehee. . just kidding. . geez!

I agree with Shortshift. At work (Construction). the diesel heads stick together and bash the gasser. The reason i bought a Dodge was because of the Cummins which in my opion out performs all other diesels--but any diesel is better than a gasser.

I agree they shouldn't detune the trucks for the autos. The big three just need to stop offering an auto option for a diesel in the first place and this problem would be solved. #ad
