I too love my CTD. I really dislike Toyota's. But to say that the fit and finish or over-all reliability of a Dodge, Ford or Chevy is as good as or better than a Honda or Toyota is crazy talk. You know the "I'd rather push my xxxx than drive your yyyy".

I have owned Toyota's, Ford's, Dodge's, Volkswagon's, and even an Acura. I LOVE my CTD but the fit and finish isn't even in the same ZIP code of the Acura. Maybe parts do cost more (for example ball joints) but the difference is in the quality. How many Toyota trucks with 5k miles have to replace ball joints? I am not talking about the "I have a buddy... " story. I am talking about in the same quantity of what we have seen just on this message board.

You can say what you want about Toyota, but I have seen them used around the globe (ie other countries) in EXTREMELY heavy duty applications such as mining and other industrial operations and guess what? They hold up extremely well. We got guys using CTD's as daily drivers and they are experiencing failed ball joints and lift pumps?? I had Ford Superduty with only 19k miles on it and it was missing 3 of the 4 bolts that hold the turbo on the engine! The result, the turbo got fried and I had to replace it. Thankfully it was under warranty.

My 01' CTD had a rattle under that dash (with only 11k miles on it) that was enough to bring a grown man to tears. My friend with a 1986 Celica with over 170k miles and not a single rattle. There's a "my buddy" story for you.

No doubt, everybody has lemons, my 1990 Tercel was one of them. But come on!! Personally I find it disgusting that my truck was built in Mexico where as my Acura was built in America. If you want to know one of the reasons that Honda's cost more its in part (please note I said PART before you flame me) due to the fact that the auto workers union adds extra costs to a vehicle that Dodge doesn't have to deal with in Mexico.

I own a CTD because I love the Cummins and I like the extra room it affords over some other trucks. I also chose the Dodge because of some bad luck I had with Ford. If Honda ever offered a full size truck with a diesel I would darn sure give it a hard look. And that's a GOOD thing because it that attitude that keeps Detroit honest and improving.

If everybody said "I will NEVER own a Japanese vehicle" then we would all still be driving the same crap that Detroit pushed out in the 70's. What we are talking about is overall or average quality, not just extreme stories from a buddy. Everybody has a story. I guess Consumer Reports and JD Power are just members of a conspiracy and are being controlled by the Japanese.

No, I simply put no faith in their tests of trucks. They don't seem to understand trucks or their intended use other than transportation and thus, in my opinion, are a poor judge of anything relating to trucks.

Well Tim, I guess since JD Powers base their quality assessments on owner responses, according to you owners don't "understand trucks or their intended uses" either.

I was stationed in Japan for 6 months and I saw a LOT of Toyota's with diesels, they just arent sold over here. They were 2 or 3 liter 4cylinder turbo diesels in a variant of the 4 runner. I have a lot of respect for tacoma's, they are a well made machine and with a stout diesel... could be fun. Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt trade my Ram2500 Quad Cab 4X4 CTD 6 spd for one anytime soon. Too bad the big 3 cant get it through their heads to offer small displacement diesels in the rangers, dakota's and s-10's huh?

Actually Archer, I am in Malaysia right now and the only pickup trucks I see are Ford Rangers and Mazda's with common rail diesel motors. Go figure.

Toyotas have great quality. I've had two Tacos and a 4Runner, but missed the big three.

Toyota is ramping up at this time to build heavy duty diesels in San Antonio. I believe they are also going to have a dually. I think they started hiring.

Thats funny I raced a 05 tundra about amonth ago he had is stereo cranked up and his windows down with that bad *** my truck is better than yours look and it was a 2-1 lane funnel so what the hell; the tundra IS NOT faster sorry... not saying it was not close but I definatly had the edge and something you are forgetting I probably weight about 2,000 pounds more. (This is my 05 I am talking about bone stock; not the 01)

my brother has a 05 tundra, and there is no way my

04. 5 cummins would come close to that truck other than towing more! its faster, better fit and finish, ride, what are the big three going to do if toyota ever build a 3/4 ton w/diesel?

Dodge 2500 ctd vs. Toyota tacoma??? Let's see, N. E. Patriots vs City High School, Duke vs. Maryville High, Red Sox vs 62 class reunion all stars... . what a joke. . Doc

I like my mexican made Dodge. Also being a general contractor and having used several mexican workers (legal workers). They are very hard workers and if you take the time to show them the correct way to do things they will do it right every time. Show up for work on time, appreciate the job, and rarely ***** about anything. I would let them build me another Dodge anytime.

I second that! :)

The key word is "legal workers" :)

My wife immigrated from Korea and that little gal puts me to shame for being hard working, law abiding, fiscally astute, family and people oriented (pun?), and just plumb smart (except for marrying me :-laf ).

My grandfolks came from Switzerland and were, and raised, a bunch of hard working farmers.

Immigrants can be great - just keep it legal.

Someone obviously didn't read the thread.

I traded an '02 Tacoma TRD for this truck. I was very happy with it and would have kept it forever if I did not get a 4500 pound travel trailer given to me. After experiencing the power of the Cummins I probably won't go back but I do like the styling of the new Tacoma.

Actually there are large tarrifs on vehicles from japan thats why they are assembled here to cut down the cost of tarrifs if its not complete the taxes are lower but still there. Ive worked on many vehicles foreign and domestic for years and I hate to admit it but the japenese are building a better product in many markets, they also retain resale value. Still own a nissan truck I beat the crap out of it going places a 4 wheeler has a hard time and NO major problems in 120K just maintenance. Look at your TV, stereo, alarm clock, computer, where are they made? They are the hardest workers I've ever seen and never complain or think their owed anything.

Don't get me wrong I love my dodge but I'll bet less major work will be done on any of my japenese vehicles. I've worked in many different repair shops and the vehicles on average with the fewest failures were the japenese.

In the April issue of Motor Trend on page 26 is this release under MT Confidential. "Hyundai's not going to make the mistake Toyota made with wimpy trucks. The Korean automaker's venture into the big pickup market will begin with a Super Duty built by International. "

I went on Hyundai's site and tried to find something on this. Didn't find anything but did read about the agreement between Hyundai and DC to build 900 series MB engines.

Maybe Hyundai is going to go head to head with the Big 3 !!
