Yesterday I posted on a horse/livestock haul site about quotes on getting two mares here(near Athens Ga. from middle Nebraska) I've gotton about FIFTEEN quotes so far and seems MORE coming in. With the EXCEPTION of ONE all have listed THIRD GENERATION DODGE trucks as their trucks! 05/06's:--) The ONE other was a D/max! Thats BIG haulers with several truck/trailers to the Mom and Pop operations with just ONE truck/trailer. Most are six horse units.
 
I had to go from So. Cal to Portland Ore. and while on the road mostly what I saw for serious trailering were Dodges, So who is buying the Duramax?? By the way I hauled a car up via car dolley and whipped that thing around like I was hauling a "Red Ryder" wagon.
 
Yep. I posted a similar observation a few days ago on a Ford Diesel website. Folks didn't believe it and said there were more Fords on the road.

I saw many more newer Ram diesels pulling trailers than Fords or Chevys. The ONLY trucks to pass me up the long grades in California were two Ram diesels. I was pulling a car trailer with a '91 F-350... about 6000-6500 pounds. The truck did great, ran cool, etc. but no match for a newer truck. Still, the 2 Rams that passed us were pulling larger trailers and were doing well. Both were obviously modded (loud exhaust by appearances, and probably other stuff... but I suspect even a stocker would have done fine on these long/steep hills... )



Good for Dodge! They finally have a truck worth buying at a price that most folks will settle for.



Ford wouldn't deal, and their salemen were arrogant. I bought a better-equipped Dodge for several thousand less. Ford's extended cab is too small, and I'm not going to pay a premium for their crewcab after driving a crew for years and living with the size... it ain't all it is cracked up to be, and the quad cab is "just right" for my 5'10" frame and long legs--even with the front seat back to suit my taste.



Dodge done good... They need to not get arrogant and to keep their prices in check. The ONLY reason I'm buying is because I could finally get a truck at an affordable price (thanks to Fusz Dodge--$3000 less than my local dealer would go. )

My neignbor is a part time hauler. He has said OVER AND OVER all he see's fueling up in the BIG islands is Dodges. I said I bet cause you got one. You know like a RED car if you own one its all you see etc. But after I posted hunting a hauler my neighbor is CORRECT. Wife said as we looked at reply after reply well it dosen't surprise me. She thought our 1993 W250 Club Cab was a REAL H. D truck compared to other makes.
 
I do also. I'm talking about hotshoters. Actually see more and more D/Maxes and not so many Fords. The word on the 6. 0 is out. Most times I talk to someone with a 6. 0 they say I know I know and tell me how THEIRS have not been as bad as someone elses but still a headache. Got a earful from a guy brush hogging a field I rented about his 05 6. 0 etc. last week.
 
I know Ford sells more trucks in general, but does anyone know who sells the most diesel trucks? Sure seems like I see a lot more CTD's on the road, but then again I live in the St. Louis area where they make Rams so they may be some loyalty here.
 
Ford sells more trucks . . . . because they count GMC and Chevy as separate truck companies. If you add them together, they GM sells more than ford.
 
Over the labout day weekend I did a couple of hour road trip and noticed that every truck pulling a 5th wheel or a goose neck was a CTD. The only d-max i saw was pulling a travel trailer. never saw a ford pulling anything but there were a couple on the road.
 
Here in the PNW Dodge Cummins rules the road. Last year on our way to a tractor show we counted about 2/3rd Dodges and 1/3rd Ford and Chevys combined.



We just got back from another show this weekend in Grant's Pass and saw a few Fords and Chevys as we passed them on some pretty good hills. Nothing can touch us unless their heavily modified.

Recently returned from a 3600 mile trip towing our 10,000 pound travel trailer. We covered parts of Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California on this trip. Our last two summers have included similar trips. I saw a BUNCH more Ram CTD's this year than in years past. Seems that the Fords have declined some, and the GM's and Dodges have increased. Just my observations, didn't count or anything.



I've also never been happier with my truck. Some very intense 8 and 9 percent grades on this trip without so much as a hiccup. She really did well. Performance on my basically stock 2003 305/555 was flawless. Got her home and changed the oil early this time due to the intense heat and heavy towing. Transmission will get serviced next week. I do all of it myself, and it keeps me "in touch" with the machine! Take care, CKruse Oo.
 
well in my area i think chevys are supposed to be the **** but everone ther knows not to mess w/ the dodge diesels lol as for more dodges pulling trailers i notice that a lot at horse shows and rodeos that the trucks sitting out back are in order dodge followed close by ford and then a ways back is chevy lol seems to me that the rodeo cowboys seem to know what will get them to the next show.
 
Had a shop owner here tell me ALL about this being Bowtie TRUCK country standing in the parking lot of his shop. While he was telling me such I watched Dodge truck after Dodge truck roll by. I said YEP thanks for the info.
 
Last fall, The wife & I went to Nashville, TN for a weekend, (I-65 from Seymour, IN to Nashville) we saw a bunch of FEMA contractors pulling campers down south, I suppose for Katrina relief efforts. After I sarted counting, (I probably started counting in KY somewhere) I saw 1 powersroke, 3 Duramax's, & 8 CTD's. Certainly not a scientific poll, just casual observations. P.
 
Dodge/Fords

In my town, central Ohio, there are way more Strokers than Dodges/D-Max's. But the Dodges are starting to grow in number thanks to a much better truck (the 3rd gens). Another thing I would have to say is more Dodges are "Cranked" than the others. A lot of old farts drive them rattley, noisy hunks of junk, just to run errands. International blows. Thank God for the Internationals with Cummins diesels in them. My town is only about 20,000 in population and it doesnt take long to get a diesel reputation around here. My reputation is starting to build and I enjoy it. Someone said " I saw a Bad *** red diesel the other day it sounded awesome" I was like..... "that was me :) "

My one buddy just traded his 1st gen for a D-max, he had it in the shop in the first 2 weeks he had it. I asked him how he was liking it, he said "yes its got more pop then a cummins but doesnt come close to one in raw pulling torque" hmmmmm... ..... Sounds to me like if you buy a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel youd want one that had more raw pulling power than one that was FAST :rolleyes: ONCE AGAIN, COMPLETLY GLAD I BOUGHT A DODGE/CUMMINS
 
I just came back from Yosemite, and all the Dodges had goosenecks, large 5th wheels, etc and the Fords had 2 motorcycle trailer. As I was going 60 mph up the Grapevine with cruise on towing my 7000lb trailer, I just laughed at the BIG F-350's towing these teeny motorcycle trailers whizzing by me thinking "is that why they bought that thing?" I'll just keep on trucking with mine, I was getting 13. 4 mpg towing the trailer.
 
Have noticed that here also. On I-10 there have been alot of hotshotters pulling 3 car haulers. At least 80% have been Dodge. When the FEMA trailers were coming through it was about the same percentage.
 
Friday I was driving down I-5 approaching Redding, CA. I see a big Ford 4X4 show truck on a gooseneck trailer pulled by (gasp!) a 3500 Dodge dually. :-laf
 
Horray!!! So I'm not the only one noticing this. I have to be on the road around six to get to class on time, and on days I don't have class I'm on the road by nine or ten. In the early mornings all I see are cummins with massive trailer loads of stock, pipe, and heavy equipment. (Makes me feel kinda bad that I'm not towing anything. :-laf ) But on days I don't have class and on the road by nine all I see is Power chokes and d-maxes, and not ONE with a trailer!

My friend who is a ford fan rebutes this claim saying "The Fords are on the road you just have to look harder, but trust me they're there. " :rolleyes: All I say is "Oh ya I've seen'em, they're all clustered around the mechanics!"
 
I'm one of the biggest fans of Dodge and Cummins that is out there, but I think that many of you may need to clean your glasses. There are A LOT of CTDs out there, but to say that they out number the Duraduds and Sick. Ohs is a little overly optimistic. While I haven't seen the sales numbers broken down to diesels only, I know that Chevy outsells Dodge more than 2 to 1, with Ford having an even bigger lead.
