Texas Ahead: Economic Outlook

Grizzly I can't write what I want to say here because this is not the political forum but the so-called economic recovery plan is NOT an economic recovery plan and will not stimulate the economy. It is a political plan to reward constituents and buy votes from favored groups. It actually punishes business, the wealthy, the successful, and the folks with money to jumpstart the economy again.

The overall economy shifted from a long sustained expansion to a decline a little over two years ago when leadership of the US House and Senate shifted. The stock market began a severe downturn back in October last year when it became obvious to big investors and big companies who shape the economy who would likely win the election. Since November 5th the stock market has plummeted almost 20% to six year lows.

The economy is made up of individual buying/investing decisions made by each and every one of us and most of us are scared to spend or buy. Lenders won't loan because they have economic forecasters who predict more bad news for average working Americans. Companies are laying off and not hiring because of the same predictions.

There is one thing that will enable an economic recovery. It works everytime it is tried. It is simple: Reduce the regulatory burden and Cut taxes. In other words, get the government out of the way and free the vast American economic machine!

We are going to see parts shortages in the not too distant future too. All this auto stuff is going to snowball big-time.



NOW is the time to consider a spare of whatever is a regular maintanance part and also a few of those no-so like starter, water pump, brake pads, and the like before there are none to be had.

I was in our local dealer to pick up some parts for my wife's car and was talking to the parts manager. More and more parts are going on national backorder - and not just the big things like injectors, but small parts, too. I am puting together a list of some things I'll pick up here and there to keep my truck running.



BTW, and this is just me speaking personally, Ken Zangara was a crook and should have been put out of business a long time ago by the State of NM. I'm sorry folks lost their jobs, but many customers got taken by that dealership.



So the Auge brothers are gone, too?

It's always good to hear doom and gloom from predictable sources who can always be counted on to predict the end of the nation.



Personally, I don't think America is going to collapse any time soon. I don't know anyone who has lost his or her job or home. The Texas economy remains relatively strong and my life is good.

Yes, the Auge Boys are gone as far as a new Dodge Dealer. They are now a used car dealer.



Ken Zangara has been well know for shady deals for many years. Attorney General, Patricia Madrid investigated him a few years ago and made him pay back all his customers, that financed with the dealership, monies they had over charged. I hate bad mouth Zangara, but he's getting what he deserves.



The Auge Boys were great and so are the Melloy Brothers.

No, I have posted the names of NO failed RV dealers. I have posted articles posted in RV Industry News that reported some of the failed RV manufacturers. I think that's useful information for anyone who owns one of the brands as I do or someone who is contemplating a purchase of a brand that no longer has factory support.

My post above which you quoted in part was posted in response to someone expressing his opinion that the US economy is moving toward collapse. I don't deliberately talk the economy down and don't think predictions of gloom and doom are helpful

I prefer to think positively as much as possible although I certainly do not deny that we have current problems in our economy.

In some regions where a segment of the labor force has driven wages and benefits to unsustainable levels, consumers have spent themselves into bankruptcy, or politicians have promised too much everything to everyone and raised taxes to unsustainable levels an "adjustment" is occuring. It's not the first recession America has had and it won't be the last. Life will continue.

as your texas controller showed in her stats, texas is not exempt. but texas has a different base for it's economy. a very unique state. i built outside of fort worth and built in the huston area for almost 8yrs. texas has a solid base for it's economy.



my local dealer which i have bought 4 rams and one dakota from in the last dozen years, a good dealer with a good service department has gone from 23 to 6 sales people. hate to see him hurt like that.

Yes, you are right. Texas does enjoy a huge and diversified economy. In the South Plains area where I live we also have a solid diversified economy isolated from the booms and busts of the real estate market in some areas.

One of the major strengths of the Texas economy that is often overlooked but I feel is important to mention is . . . we don't allow a majority of tax and spenders to populate our legislature. And best of all, for many years, Texas has not elected ONE SINGLE TAX and SPENDER to state wide office. We do have a lot of the parasites of that breed in our state legislature and some regions do elect them but so far we have managed to avoid having enough of them in the legislature to destroy the Texas economy like they have destroyed many other states.
