Took my truck in for service today (I know, I know a sin :( ) to get my brakes checked on. I had no rear brakes . I stripped it down back to stock and went to the dealer.

I went back a little while ago to pick it up, and the service manager confronted me. Ok, now I scared. He says that he doesn't like the "non-stock exhaust" nor the "modified air induction system", and that I should replace the stock components (yea right).

I also looked over my service order. Here is a direct quote:

"Could not duplicate customer concern. Vehicle has modified air induction system, modified exhaust system, and shows evidence of hidden aftermarket performance chip usage... "

Crap!! How in the world did they know? The tech that looked at the truck said that the computer had adjusted it's setting to accomodate the chip and "possibly larger injectors". He reset the computer, to stock values. That made a huge SOP difference. I haven't got my EZ back on yet, but just the BD2's will scream now. It also idles a little smoother.

All of this said, and I still have no brakes. I need to strap the service manager to the front and aim for a pole. When the truck dosn't stop, tell HIM that there is nothing wrong! This sucks!

Sorry for the long post, just let you guys know about the current situation. Don't be suprised if you get similar results from going to a dealer. Just remember . . . They Know!

6-way turn signal conversion?

Gizmo 007,

What is the 6-way turn signal conversion that you mentioned in your signature? It sounds interesting.

6 way turn signal

Basically, you rewire the rear lights and replace your reverse lights so that they look like this:

#ad

Do a search on "6 way turn signal" that should help. I will also send you a PM of what I did.

Might want to remind your dealer, that it is not their mission to revert your truck to stock, but rather, inspect, and repair what you asked them to look at. If it's not a warranty repair, why should they care anyway ???

If I have oversize tires on my truck, and I take it in for a new light bulb in the glove box, is the dealer suppose to replace the tires (and not the bulb) ? NO !

Do it yourself, or find another shop that will do what needs to be done. To hell with that dealer.

Man that crap gets my goat.

I'm interested in that statement about the computer adjusting itself to your mods, your reset, and then better performance? Several people swear they've disconnected their batteries, reset the ECM, and their trucks ran stronger. Makes me wonder...

The ECM sort of compensates for the added fuel by reprogramming itself. When you disconnect the batteries (or in my case have it reset by the scantool) the computer is back to factory specs, thus more fuel. Pretty cool, eh?

Just what, exactly, does your intake and exhaust have to do with rear brakes? Why did they even raise your hood? If you went to the dentist and complained of a tooth-ache, would he inspect your feet as well? Those guys are Nazis... . buy some tools, a manual and do it yourself... or find a good independent.

BCFAST:

I was wondering the same thing.

This is a Five Steal Dealer we're talking about here. A bunch of idiots looking for a reason not work. I guess the stacks had to start them wondering.

Let me check my book here...

Ah! Here it is: Reason number 497 why I love my 12 valver: No going to the dealer for ANYTHING!

Simply hearing the word dealership makes my blood boil!

Those guys are criminals, and on top of that, most of them don't know what the he!! they are doing when it comes to our trucks...

this is big yall....

This is a big deal yall. If the Cummins can adjust its self to the power we put on it that is just sh!ty. Think about it for a second and you will understand my concern. Almost as bad as the new Duramax from what I hear.

Is there a way we can reset it at home with the Alex Pepper or Palm programs???

P. S. Another reason for a "custom ECM"

I've seen reference to this a few times. It would seem to me that you would damage the battery posts and cable ends if you did it very often. Is there an inexpensive alternative?

jdecampo is correct! Your friendly Dodge dealer scanned your truck..... guess what, your own Ram ratted you off!

surprise, surprise!

That's why I started staying at the dealership when they had my truck and stand right outside the shop door. That way I could question what the hell they were doing checking an area that wasn't broken. There's no reason they should be under your hood.

Gizmo,

Every dealership has a General Manager which is the dealership owners right-hand man. Find him and explain you took the truck in for inoperable brakes and this makes the truck a dangerous liability, and the service guys refuse to work on your truck because he didn't like your exhaust.

I work at an import car company and a couple years ago we had a customer experience brake failure on a car under that was under warranty. The car manufacturer and the servicing dealer got sued for a lot of cash because someone died.

HOW DO THEY KNOW ????

Hmmm... . think about it.

Now we have a real world instance of a dealer utilizing a member's profile data to identify a customer use it against him.

So, what do you think the REAL is for our TDR managers providing last names in the profiles???

No only does it sound like time to Relocate the data port, but it also sounds like it's time to find a lock mechanism for the hood.

Here's a humorous one for you regarding people messing with your truck in the garage. I recently took my truck in for it's annual safety inspection. They pulled it into the garage and shut the door (I hate that). About 10 seconds later I hear my Grover air horns going off! My stock horn still works by the way. Anyhow, I busted out laughing. The button for the horns is kinda hidden but apparently they found it. "Hmmm... I wonder what this button does? I guess I'll just press it. " It must have scared the heck out of them in that little garage. Bottom line is they had no business pressing the button anyways. Who knows what else they fiddled with. At least they got a little jolt out of it. :D

dealer service bites

 I tried to watch when I took mine in for the cold idle flash. I stood outside the service bay they had parked my truck in. No more than 5 mins after I got there, the service manager came out and said I had to move due to "insurance requirements".

I went back inside and planted myself right at the line that said "no custmers beyond this point", Didn't move the rest of the time the truck was there.

Vaman, they had to test your horn,as a NYS inspector,I know that if its there,it has to work. If its inopperative, take it off, before you bring it in. I have inspected old cars on occasion,1967 and older were seat belt exempt, but if you added them yourself they must work,or it will fail, even though the law says it doesnt need them, and will pass inspection without them, the minute you put the satery item on,it must work properly.
