Hello fellow members, I'm new to TDR and diesels. But this site, club and it's members are awesome!! I was raised around GM trucks all my life and used to be a "Chevy Freak"! That is, until 1999 when I purchased my first Dodge for my wife, a Stratus. I recieved alot of criticism from family and friends. Well, last month I purchased my first RAM and I have never drove a truck that turns so many heads and recieves so many compliments as this one!!! (except one, my best friend, a "Powerchoke Freak") I need help and I know you guys can provide that. My friend bashes my Ram in a polite way and wants me to ride with him to look at "Powerchoke" he is about to purchase. Give some polite suggestions and "cut throat" ones! Thanks alot, you guys are great!

P. S. I feel like I have been Re-Born!!!

If you decide to ride the loser to the Phurd garage leave him at the entrance to avoid the embarassment for yourself. You need to hang out in better company. Cummins didn't get to be the biggest diesel builder in the world by converting school bus engines into light duty diesels. They built the right thing the first time for the intended purpose. And, oh yeah, you can put 50 lbs. of boost through them and not blow them up. #ad

Load each one up to max gcwr, with a full trailer, and put each truck in 1st gear. now, see if the poke-in-the-eye-with-a-sharp-stick can move the load without touching the go pedal. repeat with the Cummins. Laugh out loud. Then take both trucks with full loads and drive around 500 miles. Measure amount of fuel each uses. Laugh out loud again. Repeat empty. Laugh out loud again. Show him the invoice for you dodge. ask him to show the invoice for the ford. Laugh out loud again. You made the right choice. Congratulations. Remind him that you made the right choice in 300,000 miles. nuff said

I had that too! Just smile at him cause he is very insecure! #ad
I get the "mine's a V8 and all you got is 6"... . look at a big rig!

Ask him why you just don't see V8 diesels in reliable big rigs anymore... They're junk and don't last. An economical failure.

Go to the parts store and get a main journal bearing from each motor and ask him which one could take more power, last longer, disapate heat... ect.

Tell him that the Cummins has half the moving parts of a PSD. Simple is good, cheap and strong.

Does the PSD have a deep skirted block to disapate heat? Nah.

When was the last time you saw a PSD with 400k on the motor?

I could go on all night... #ad

Quit simple... ... you'd rather be Cummin than Strokin'

Love those stickers.

Same story on this end... ..... now lets see after our dyno day 2 non dodgers went to the dealer THE NEXT DAY AND CALLED ME TO SAY THANX!-------Nuff said.

Also be sure and mention that if you get lazy and don't change your oil at recomended intervals it won't start idling rough. It also has only ONE oil pump. The cummins also sounds like a real deisel. . not a sewing machine. And well as you all know the PSD just... . Sucks lol

This is an easy one. Pop both hoods and ask your friend which engine he would like to work on. The PSD is such a nightmare under the hood, it's hard to tell if there is really an engine under all that CRAP in there. Also you could ask why the Cummins 5. 9 ISB is STANDARD EQUIPMENT on the F650 and F750 Ford's with 36,000 GVW. And why the **** thing is 1. 5 liters bigger, and yet when Bombed struggles to make 150hp LESS on propane and everything else they can pump into that thing, than a tired old 5. 9 6-banger that runs on #2 diesel alone. Pathetic.

"Cummins didn't get to be the biggest diesel builder in the world by converting school bus engines into light duty diesels. "

But we do have them in our school buses. It tc 2000 models use the 5. 9 b engine for the 72 passenger buses. The powerchokes are in the 36 passenger buse only. I guess they dont have enought a s s to pull the big buses.

pull out both owner manuals and show him that the all mighty cummins weighs 1120 lbs then look at the flower smoke,I believe its 850 lbs and 2 cylenders more, then tell him that 1 connecting rod from a cummins weighs slightly less than 2 furd connecting rods, then tell him we have 2x's the bearing surface, also tell him we can put RV injectors for 400 dollers while his stock injectors are 2600 bucks, then slam your door and listen to the solid construction, his door will sound very tinney and the whole side of the truck will shake, this list could go on forever but irregardless of what he says just sit back and smile so he knows you are confident in your choice of the best truck on the road. #ad

They only reason to buy something other and DC is a TRUE CREW CAB. Come on DC get those CREWS OUT THERE!!!

Another reason to buy a PSD, some people like the sound of rice crispys. #ad

I disagree with all the above posts... . let him have the Powerstroke if he's bent on it.
That way every time you blow his doors off he will be constantly reminded of his decision. #ad

As a former PSD owner. Yes a PSD can be made to be fast. Yes a PSD can get good fuel mileage. Yes they can last a long time (500,000- 800,000 mi). No they are not cheap to fix ($750 Water Pump, $375 EACH for injectors!x8 = $3000. 00 set!)Most rebuilds cost about $10,000! + install!, They are very particular about oil that has a tendency to foam. They can & will cavitate & eat through the #8 cylinder if the SCA level is not carefully maintained. The drivetrain that FORD puts behind them will not stand up to much abuse. If your friend still buys one, remind him that just like a lot of DC dealers, most FORD shops don't know much about diesels.

Worst way I've found to screw with the Powerlesspuke and Duracrap gang is to listen to their stories and smile alot widely,,Yes then they will ask about your wide smile, and when you speak all you got to do is this(no words are needed, why waste energy on these moron's),,#1-Start you ride and warm it up(sends a little fear),,#2-Proceed to the rear of your truck and remove your spiffy hitch plug and insert your trailer hitch or pintle hitch(they now are getting a little sweaty),,#3-Break out the trusty chain or tow strap, hang over the ball and begin to walk towards the rear of their not so mighty Brand-x junk(Ok,now the excuses will begin),,#4-As they begin to ask what in the world you are doing, just smile and point to their truck,by then they KNOW its time for an old fashioned schoolyard a*# whooping,,#5-As the mighty brand-x owner scurries to unhook and leave, exit your seat and enjoy a REFRESHING beverage of your choice!!!Remember this old saying,,ACTIONS DO SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!!!!! Oh yeh,for those of you who will ask, there have been a couple of fools who have tried to play the game,BUT,When the smoke cleared(exhaust and tire)I am now 7-0 on these fools(pics of the last two,if I can figure out how I'll post one, computers are not my strong point) ,,Seems like they do not want to play anymore,,As far as a ride to Furd dealer ,TELL HIM TO TAKE A CAB!!!!! THE CEREBRAL ASSASSIN ALWAYS WINS THE GAME!!!!!

My answer to that nonesense:

"Yah, and if you could get the Cummins in a Ford, and Dodge offered the PS... . you'd think the Cummins was #1... and the PS was... well a "Piece of S".

FWIW: My father thinks the Cummins is better than his 00' PS. . But he doesn't care... He likes the Ford truck and the PS is good enough for what he needs the truck for. Point being. . my father doesn't let his ego rule his judgement of things.

Naturally, I had to agree with him about the Cummins #ad

Ron over at Vandyke Engine in Fremont, MI in involved in tractor pulling, builds pulling engines and rebuilds automotive and agricultural engines. He and I were talking about the Power Short engine when he suggested that I take a look at a bare bones block he had sitting in his shop. Guys, there just isn't alot of meat to be found ANYWHERE on that block. Matter of fact, Ron pointed out that he has been finding fluid at . 030 over when working on these engines. Hmmm, verrrry interesting.

Well, I bought myself a new 1999 F250 Powerchoke. I always wanted a dodge, but the ford was cheaper... and after all it was a V-8. I had it for about 3000 miles... and i went out to go to work and it wouldnt start... and it was 70 out that day. took it in and ford said there was nothing wrong with it. so home i went, and for the next 3 months i had the same problem, not to mention that the lights would just flash and go crazy too. So after 3 months, i said you know what, buy this piece of trash back or talk to my lawer. They did. I lost a little bit on money, but now i have a rel truck... and im very happy
