Does adding a flat bed void warranty?

I read somewhere, maybe on here, that a flatbed conversion puts you on to commercial and voids warranty?

Seems unreasonable to me, and what warranties come on trucks that are commercial? Surely they still get a warranty, no?

Shouldn't void any warranty save for possibly any warranty associated with the original bed.

I would check with Ram. What we think and they do can be quite different.

It’s not the warranty (I remember...) it was the Max Care that was voided with the removal of the bed. They consider it commercial at that point instead of consumer.

Just don't ask the dealer, they don't have the final determination.

It's the service contract, not the factory warranty.

I found out the hard way that MaxCare is voided when you have a flatbed. Luckily, the dealer who sold me the plan did it when the flatbed was already on the truck, so when I had a repair item denied by MaxCare due to the flatbed, the dealer refunded me the full amount that I paid originally.

Supposedly there is some commercial version of MaxCare, but I have yet to find details on it.

Thanks Conifer. I the reading your post earner this year was where I heard of this BS! So they denied coverage on parts that were clearly unrelated to the flat bed as boiler plate policy? Love your rig by the way.

I think I have the MAX CARE, and hate that this my be the reason I don't go flat bed!

Yeah, the turbo actuator failed, and the dealer had to get MaxCare approval since the cost was over a certain amount (can't remember exactly). The guy from MaxCare came out, saw the flatbed, denied coverage, and canceled my policy on the spot, hah.

Thank you for the kind words too! I love the truck. Just wish it would stop having problems! I'm now facing a heater core replacement, which was the last thing I wanted to be doing right now.

Well, I didn't realize that when I bought it and neither did the dealer.

Although, after I reviewed the warranty terms, it does specifically say that if the truck is modified by removing the stock bed or replacing it with a flatbed, then the warranty is void. I believe I only received a refund as the flatbed was already installed at the time the dealer sold me the warranty, so it was their mistake.

Ok, found the terms in my contract. The last sentence is the one that states: "vehicles ordered with box delete option or where the box has been removed"

"The following are not eligible for this Vehicle Protection Plan: Limousines; emergency vehicles (ambulance, fire, police pursuit; police patrol); vehicles used for security patrol; right-hand drive vehicles (except vehicles manufactured by FCA US LLC); vehicles used for postal service (except vehicles manufactured by FCA US LLC); vehicles used for dump truck; vehicles used for tow service (i.e. tow trucks); vehicles equipped with a diesel engine (except vehicles manufactured by FCA US LLC, Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Volkswagen); vehicles that operate on other than gasoline or diesel fuel systems (i.e. natural gas, electric); vehicles equipped with engines greater than 8 cylinders (except vehicles manufactured by FCA US LLC); one-ton vehicles used for commercial use (such as Ram 3500 and trucks that are equivalent); ALL cab and chassis vehicles; vehicles ordered with box delete option or where the box has been removed; vehicles with dual rear wheels if used for commercial purposes."

First thing I did was read what the maxcare covered in regard to my truck, didn't pay attention to the bed removal statement since it didn't apply to me.

But, this bed removal doesn't apply to the original warranty does it???

You’re correct. I derailed this a bit as the maxcare/flatbed thing was brought up.
