A friend needs a replacement and can't afford the $300 for a new one at the dealer. Maybe some one had a service body or something put on and doesn't need one anymore? Email me at conradl@globalnetisp with a price.

I have one that I bought and have been too lazy to install, and am now thinking of going with a Ruenel or Ranchhand. It is in perfect shape, as it was a take off for a aftermarket bumper. I paid $160 and will let it go for that. E-mail me for more info.

Arcticat,

If you have any truck shops up there that sell aftermarket bumpers, check with them. Often, they keep the factory bumpers, when they replace them. I priced one out here in San Antonio for $100.

Check Ebay under Dodge Ram. I usually see OEM bumpers in there at least once a month. There are all kinds of parts for Rams listed. I bought a nice set of Mopar heated mirrors ($200) and a new rear bumper (Fey brand, nice bumper, $140). I also bought my quad headlights on Ebay.

I had a Reunel on the rear for a while. I had two concerns and you might address them with Reunel when you order: (1) they use slots instead of holes to mount it. This means you should use large heavy washers, not as big a problem if they used holes near the required size. The slots are also the wrong way--you have to slide the bumper all the way back just to get minimal clearance to the bed. I'd much rather have more clearance to the bed. There are two bolt patterns depending on the year of Ram. (2) it would be nice if they boxed the outer part of the bumper. It is nice and thick--1/4" but only a formed C section so might bend if you bang a pole near the outside of the bumper. Box tubing would be a lot stronger and not too much heavier.

I made a rear bumper recently from remnants and 1/2" x 5" plate formed at the steel company for me. It's basic design is similar to the Reunel but it sticks out farther, has more bed clearance, and is a bit lower to catch those Hondas better #ad
I'm using 4x6" . 25" wall box tubing for the outside parts. I'm using 4 holes to mount it (the front hole is the one between the bolts for the tailpipe mount on 94-7 Rams) with 9/16" bolts. I have a reinforcement from the 1/2" mounting plates to the outside of the tubing. It should do real well against errant poles that jump out at it while I'm backing up #ad

I imagine Reunel could incorporate some of these upgrades at small cost. It's a LOT of work to make one of these bumpers at home.

Some additional comments on Reunel bumpers... .

I went to the RV show this weekend - I'm looking for a Patio Hauler 5th wheel - and there were several of the Sportmobile 4wd Ford vans that had Reunel bumpers front & rear. Being the inquisitive guy that I am I had to crawl underneath and check out the mounting. Remember, these were Ford vans so take it for what it's worth regarding the Ram.

The rear bumper was mounted with 4 bolts in vertical shear on the end of each frame rail - like they were trying to put a cap on the end of the frame rail. The brackets on the bumper were 1/2" thick, basiclly a T and had no gusseting. The mount attached to the vehicle in only 1 plane. No braces out to the ends of the bumper were used.

The front bumper was marginally better in that it had two 1/2" thick flanges - 1 on the side of the frame rail, 1 on the bottom of the rail. Again, no gusseting or bracing was used.

I don't see the benifit of 1/2" thick mounting flanges on the bumper when the frame rail that the bumper is attached to is ~3/16" thick.

I have not looked at the Reunel bumpers on a Dodge - I'm ASSuming that they use a similar design philosophy(sp?)

I'm sure Reunel could modify the mounts to meet my criteria - for a fee.
