I just purchased a 98 Dodge ram LWB 4x4. 24vISB Cummings Engine. The guy had a Diable Power Puck And I dont know that much about them. Can Somone tell me about this product. Will this product hurt the motor or cause me any problems. Thanks for any info.

Diablo

Was looking into buying one myself. Seems similar to EZ boxes or the like. Went with the EZ for price and seemed to be what a lot of folks around here are running. If you remove it you will lose the extra power it gives. I was told this was a mild power increase. Another one that would stay within the drivetrain specs.

For more info on the Power Puck, contact member Diesel Freak . He purchased one and loves it.

You can also try the search... there have been several threads about this product. Like all products, some like them, some don't!

The ones they sell now are programable using a lap top connected into the trucks computer link. Southesat Power in Orlando sells them and you can to the PowerPuck web site for addtional info. I've been considering getting one, but have not been home long enough to really look at it hard. Its not the hottest one on the market, but it appears to be alot better than the stock set up without getting way out of line.

actually, there is a cerial port in the top of the puck... you have to remove the allen screws and cover with the supplied allen wrench.

as far as I know the software is not available yet... that is a good thng for me, since I really need to fix my clutch (slipping  ) before I add any more power... I am putting in DD-3's and I wil need to tweek the parameters in the Puck to match them.

currently with my 275's and Puck I can hit 1200F on the Pyro (pre turbo) that is with 28 psi of boost, so If you are running a puck (or any fueling enhancement) I suggest a boost module to keep EGT safe.

what is a boost module and what does it do? I am not familar with that upgrade. Also can someone tell me where I can get the phscotty air filter system?

thanks again.

Do you recomend the physcotty filter. Is there any other good ones. Sorry to keep bothering everyone, I want to buy the best one.

thanks

At the Chrysler Show at Carlisle there was a Diablo dealer on the grounds, now for the moment I can not seem to find his number, but I do remember he was located in the Cleveland/Akron,OH area,,The software according to him is out for upgrades and is easily installed with a computer or laptop,,he claimed that he could do it it their on site in a few minutes or you could send it back to them and it would get done and shipped out promptly,,One of the things he kept driving to me was that once the Diablo system was purchased the ORIGINAL owner of the system could get his upgrades for free,,I have not seen one installed, but, supposedly there is one in my area here in York and I know the truck and am looking forward to chatting with the owner,,Diablo's website is as follows, and this is directly off their brochure in front of me www.diablosport.com ,,Hope you find the info you need there,,Meanwhile I'll try to find that friggin business card of his for the number,Too much beer and sunburn warped my brain a little and can't seem figure out where I set it down at... .

I appreciate the information. If you find out anything else please let me know. I would also like to call him if you can find his number. Also do you know what a boost module does and why I would need one. My mechanic Said I need to install one. What is he talking about?

thanks again

A boost module simply hides any boost value over 20PSI from the ECM so it will not cut back on the fueling. It comes with an elbow that bleeds off some of the boost from the wastegate actuator causing it to open later (higher boost). More air and more fuel means more power. Higher boost levels also lower EGT's. Hope this helps.

I will try to answer any question if I can. The programming software is being finished. It did not get released as quick as anyone had hoped. The results of the Puck are impressive. The only issue lately was with early 2001 6spds. They got a few check engine lights. It was a problem I am under the impression all were in this model. This problem has been handled as well now. The Pucks used to come in two models. One for the standard 24V and one for the HO engine, but now with the new unit, it works on any 24V cummins.

Let me know if I can help with any more questions.

Smokin,

The numbers are about 60/160 and fuel economy is usually reported back to be gained by about +2. The power is felt with an empty truck, but most of it is felt under a load. It comes into it's own, you would say, towing.

As far as the programming, since it's not out and not even dealers have seen or used it, I have no feedback or numbers for you. I am told 100hp is do-able and more with injectors and such. As far as cost, you are welcome to e-mail me. I refrain from posting costs for two reasons, respect for the site, and I give TDR members a discount and I won't post it for respect of other dealers, even though I don't think there are any on the site.

Power Puck

Smokin' Gator & BValentz,

I bought my Power Puck through Bob Riley at one of our club meetings. I got a 1-2 MPG increase driving the same casual manner as before. You can break the rear end loose if you try, something I could not do before.

I unplugged it and drove home from work one day and really noticed the power difference, less. I plugged it back in once the engine cooled off and I could reach in safely.

Mine is a programmable unit but I have not considered changing the way it works now. We discussed what improvement it would have if I went to 275 injectors. Bob said he has put several in motor homes and they still get the wake up call.

I went to the local CUMMINS shop and asked about power upgrades. They directed me to a shop across the street. Guess what he sold? Diablo Power Pucks. Seems the shop in town couldn't believe the difference it made. They can't or won't sell 'em but send lots of folks next door.

I plan to run mine on their dyno and see what I have now and again after I do an injector swap. When?, I don't know. Maybe I'll pick up a set of injectors at Diesel Extravaganza in Terra Haute later this month.

I am very happy with my puck.

Power Puck

I heard that on the VA box you have to break some void stickers to connect the box. Is this the same with the Power Puck?

No, I simply disconnected the factory wiring plug at the back of the injection pump and connected it to the Puck. Then connect the puck back to the pump.
