I went to the muffler shop today to have my Donaldson M085171 installed. Before he put it on I asked about cutting off the cat and he told me it would void all the warranties on the truck. Is this true?

Save the cat for the future. Install a pipe in it's place. It would depend on the dealer as to warranty. I would worry more about future smog tests that are inevitably coming... . :confused:

i just took off the exhaust behind the cat and took a 36" long 1" pipe and beat out the ceramic material inside of the cat ...

a quick trip down the road to blow out the dust and you have the perfect cat ...

meets all "requirements" because its perfect externally and flows like a straight pipe ...

has that de-stinked tone well all know and love so well ...

D/C can void the warrenty putting fuel in your tank claiming bad fuel...

:{

But seriously, with any modifications to the vehicle, repeat what has been said many times here on the forum "I am my own warrenty station".

If you beat the center out of the cat and later your state starts to test diesels with a gas analysis they will be able to tell what you've done... . I'm guessing that replacing the cat will cost 300 to 400..... Flip the coin.....

Just buy the mbrp cat test pipe for 60 bucks and save ur cat so you could put it back on if you go to the dealer.

interesting, which states have sniffer tests for diesels?

here in WV they don't have sniffer tests for gas yet so i feel pretty safe ...

I live in illinois and my county gas or diesel don't have to get emission tested but the next county over for gas have to get tested.

Is it as simple as removing the clamps, sliding the cat off and replacing it with the MBRP test pipe?

Not even close :-laf I tried that and when the clamps are tightened at the factory it crimps the pipe into the pipe slid into it and removeing the clamp pretty much does nothing... I just cut the pipe abput 6"s on each side of cat so if I had to I could always put back in easy enough

YES SAVE THE KITTY !!!!!!! This way it can be replaced later... ... . It will take some time and LOTS of effort you can use a gas torch ( without burning your truck to the ground) heat the unclamped pipes at the clamp site and pull the pipe free. Plan on a good few hours to do this. Then just slip the replacement pipe into the space and put the clamps back on. Keep in mind that some of the smog natzi cops will look under your truck , should you get pulled over or inspected, and will be looking for your kitty. If you truck is supposed to have one and it is not there. OH MY the explaining that will need to be done. Nevada tests diesels in Clark, Nye, and Washoe counties.

Happy tinkering
