Any vets out there? I got a Golden Retreiver/Lab that is about 11 yrs old. This started about a year ago but it has got worse lately. He is always scratching or rolling around on his back. He sleeps on a rug in front of the front door sometimes and he will be kicking his feet on the door rolling around. You can run your finger along his side and he will pick up his hind leg and start scracthing his side. Just seems like he is real sensitive to touch. His skin is normal color. Not shredding any hair other than normal. He is usually in water where ever he can find it to take him a dip. Doesn't matter what time of the year it is but he has always been like that. No lost of appetite. I stopped by the vet today to get his rabies shot and ask the assistant(vet was not there) about this. He said sometimes when dogs get older they are more sensitive to allergys etc. He told me to get some childrens Benadgyl and give him a couple of tablespoons a day of that and see if it helps so I did. Just wondering if you fellows that have dogs have ever run in to this problem?

I guess that video camera we had Whitmore plant on your dog when he was visiting is acting up. We just wanted to see into the world of Larry... :p

Maybe the dog needs a bath or if he gets baths, maybe he's sensitive to the shampoo.

I would have the vet give him a once over for starters. At eleven, he should be on a senior dogfood. Maybe add some cooking oil to his dry food if you can find one he likes the taste of.

My springer spaniel is alergic to leaves, especially in the fall, the vet has us give him a Benadryl in the morning and one at supper time, seems to help him, the only side effect is it makes him tired, with his energy level that is not a bad thing. We get the generic from Wal-Mart, very cheap.

Yep ... different dog though ... Dalmation. She gets showered, doesn't help. Tried Benadryl ... doesn't touch it. It's allergies in our case.

Might not be in your case though. Maybe you could find some kind of specalist. Does it get better in winter?

Tim I wondered why Kevin was taking so much interest in my dog :D every time I am around Sam(thats his name)I feel like somebody is watching me :-laf You can not keep this dog clean cause every since he was a pup if theres water around he is in it thats the Lab in him. I been looking around on Petco site and they have lots of info on there about older dogs so I will try some different things. Its probably time to change what he eats hes been on Pedigree dry dog food since he was a pup. I have been giving him some Glucosamine for a few weeks and that seems to help him he moves around a lot easier now.
