Anyone know what is special about the offroad muffler M101167? Seems to have similar flow specs to the M090544. It has a high temp paint coating. Should it last longer or what? It costs about $16 more than the M090544.

Anyone running the M120100? It also has similar flow numbers to the M090544 with better DB ratings and looks to be more similar to the OEM muffler in size and inlet/outlet location. It is about $139

In the case of the M101167 it is just the Black Matte finish.

I don't think the $16. 00 extra will give any greater longevity.

That would be a looks thing as a lot of off-road exhaust systems are out where they show rather than underneath a vehicle.

John Deere and Cat equipment exhaust systems are usually Black Matte.

Mike. :)

Thanks Mike. Found pictures on another website from someone who installed the M120100 and they were quite happy with it. Going to go with that one.

The rated flow on the M120100 is right at what these motors flow WOT at rated rpm so it's as small as you want to go. The M101167 is a little undersized for our exhaust flow.

For modified engines you need to run the 40" or 51" if you want quieter.

I’m a bit confused. The M090544 muffler that has been recommended in other threads has a body about 44. 5” long with an overall length of 51” including the inlet and outlet pipes. Is it considered the 40” one or the 51” one? Or are you referring to the 5” mufflers like the M090535? The M090544 flow numbers are as follows: 2006, 1638, 1158. The M120100 flow numbers are 1997, 1631, 1153. Does a 5 to 9 cfm difference really matter? Am I missing something?

The M090544 is a 51" muffler. 2000 CFM is about what the motor runs WOT at rated rpm, so your fine there. The other popular muffler is the 40" M085171, its a little louder but flows a little more.

I'm running the 51" M090544, with cat delete. I had a local independent muffler shop remove the cat, OEM muffler, and existing hangers, weld on two new hangers with the rubber dampeners on the rear of the muffler, and one more in the middle. The front down-pipe was already secured to the bell housing by Dodge. The whole assembly is plenty secure. When towing my 12k FW over 10,000' passes in So. Colorado, my egt's are definitely easier to control.

I can't give the Donaldson and cat delete all the EGT reduction credit, as I also have a Quad boost fooler, the stock airbox mod from Carson Dodge (extra 4" tube coming out of the bottom of the airbox), along with the blue silicon turbo inlet hose. I'm seeing about a 100 deg. drop in EGTs with this setup, after removing the AFE Stage 7 CAI. It didn't have the sealed airbox, so I was sucking in a lot of hot air from the engine.

Overall I'm very happy with the muffler. It's also quiet, with no highway droning.

Prairie Dog,

It doesn't have what I would call a "tuned" sound. It doesn't have that nice rumble like some of the aftermarket exhaust systems, and even less so than the OEM. But, at 75-80 mph the wind noise inside the cab is louder than the exhaust. Every so often I have an 11 hour trip to make at 75-80, and a constant drone would be unacceptable. Even at slower speeds, I'm not really aware of the exhaust noise.

Compared to the stock exhaust, it definitely sounds like it's moving more air volume at a slightly higher pitch, even at idle.

Honestly, I'd prefer a little more deep rumble, but the straight-flow system does what I need it to, with respect to lower EGT's, and without the highway drone.

Note in my truck signature that I do have sound dampening in the roof, firewall, doors, floorboards, and rear wall. I don't think that had much effect, if any, on the perception of exhaust noise inside the cab. The biggest difference I noted from the sound dampening was a reduction in tire noise and vibration (I run 315's) after doing the rear cab wall. I tested the sound dampening before and after with a decibel meter, and only saw a decrease of a few db's at idle through 80mph. With out the sound dampening, I don't think you'll hear much difference over stock inside the cab with the Donaldson.

Thanks Scott. Hmm, I wonder what the Donaldson would sound like with a resonator like the one on the Mega Cab? Could be an interesting experiment if I could get a take off from someone.

It sounds great!

I run a M085171 and a mega resonator. Its not too loud, doesn't drone and has a throaty sound.

I had to add the mega resonator becuase my exhaust brake was WAY too loud with just the 40" Donaldson. It hurt your ears.

Lived with it long enough to give an update.

First, thumbs up to Ryder Fleet Products for good prices and great delivery times. Special ordered the M120100 and it said 1 to 4 weeks for delivery. A couple of days later it was on the doorstep.

The M120100 is huge. It barely fits in the stock location using the stock pipes. It is taller than stock so it has to be tilted over to clear a crossmember, at least it does on the quad cab with the short bed. Best bet would be to fab up short connector pipe with a two or three inch drop between the cat and this muffler. The hangers take some creativity.

As far as sound, the truck has a bit more turbo noise (could be that the exhaust is quieter so the turbo noise is more noticeable?). At idle and light throttle at low rpm it sounds a bit tinny, especially with the rear sliding window open. Sound out the tail pipe is good. Due to the tinniness I would not recommend it.
