You need to only run red fuel at your own risk. A buddy of mine has a 05 with 22,000 miles on it that just got his warranty yank because of contimanted fuel. My truck is in the shop and injectors for it are on backorder in the mean time the dealer told me to come get the truck and drive till they come in along with telling me to make damn sure theres no red fuel in it when it comes back or they won't warranty the injectors. SO

run red at your own risk. Does anyone know how to get the red out of your system??????????????????

Honestly, I would completely drain the tank and refill with clear diesel. I would also change the fuel filter at the same time. You will get most of it out doing that and hopefully you can run enough fuel through it so they won't be able to see it.

While I don't condone runnig red fuel on the street, I fail to see how it could be considered contaminated. It's just red dye. Red fuel would be totally legal in an off-road application for the CTD.

I buy red dye from a big dealer in our town here and it is CLEAN. If you are pumping that stuff out of an old transfer tank or job site tank than sure it is gonna be contaminated. Dealer cannot say anything about it being a dirty fuel.

pure ignorance on the dealers behalf. just one more excuse for them to back out of a warranty...

what next, no warranty due to fuzzy dice & pine scented air freshener?

I Have A Friend Who Has Two 3rd Gen Trucks That Have Agri Spray Rigs On Them And The Run Only Red/farm Use Fuel Through Them And Have Had Lots Of Warranty Work Done On Them, Due To The Extreme Enviroment That They Use Them In.

4lo Near Red Line For Hours At A Time, Bean Leaves Clogging And Clopasing Air Filter, List Can Go On And On.

Problem In Your Case Is An Uneducated Dealer.

Off road fuel is not contaminated, and I agree with the other posts, not to mention red fuel was legal last fall and who knows the truck could have sat with old red fuel in it.

Holy voided warranty Batman, you actually put fuzzy dice in the Bat-Mobile. Wait till the internet fuzzy dice police hear about this. :-laf

What about those people who use their trucks for farming and don't get on the road with them? You are gonna tell me that because I chose to use my truck as a farm only truck that I don't get a warranty? That's horsecrap if you ask me.

if red fuel is contaminated then i guess all the multi million dollars worth of excavation equipment ( bachoes, loaders, dozers, excavators) must have special diesel engines. you need to find yourself a new dealer to deal with if they are that ignorant. i work around heavy equipment that runs nothing but red fuel all day and have never seen any problems with red fuel. red fuel has a higher sulfer content which is like having more octane in gas. besides how does your dealer know its red fuel? they do make a red fuel dye to test for fuel leaks just like an a/c system dye.

Sooooo I gather that by using Marvel Mystry Oil (Bright Red in Color) that your warranty could be voided  Just take in a bottle of that and show the dealer. :)

that is a crok of s#!t! i had injector problems on my 04. 5 and ran home heating fuel. dealer had the truck for like 6 weeks then discovered i had red fuel and said it was contaminated. tried voiding warantee. i had then send the fuel to a local cummins dealer to be analized. sample results came back A-OK! if they want to void your warantee send out a sample to have it analized!... james :D

They are a bunch of knuckleheads at your dealer. HHO, #2, red, yellow, green, heck I'll even toss kerosene in the mix- IT'S ALL THE SAME!

I suspect that the dealership is trying to be polite and not turn you in to the authorities for running red untaxed off-road fuel in your liscenced for road travel pickup. I assume, of course, that running offroad fuel is illegal in your state and that you were able to drive the vehicle, on public roads, to and from the dealership. I farm in Kansas, and I will never put red fuel in my road vehicles.

but as stated last fall when diesel was short it was LEGAL to run red diesel on road for several months so long as you paid the road tax at time of fillup so I agree with everyone else that it would be hard to prove in court that the fuel was being run illegally. I second the send it out for testing to see if the fuel is contaminated...

? I never heard of this... had to be for commercial use only or something.

To those that purchased red dyed fuel and payed the $. 244 road tax during the 8/25/05 thru 9/15/05 relief period I apologize for implying you were breaking the law.

Re: red diesel

Will offroad diesel also lose most of its sulfur, and become ULS as will over the road fuel? If so, when will this happen?
