Had my 3500 checked over yesterday (last time under warranty, yah! Now I can do whatever I'm willing to pay for!) and figured I'd have them drop in a new fuel filter while it was there. Big mistake. Dodge charges $42. 50 for that fuel filter. Egads! I have one laying in my tool box and just haven't taken the time.

So I told them I'd give them the one in my box and we'd call it even. They didn't go for it. I told them the fuel filter costs something like $10 from Cummins so they should start buying from them -- they said they would but their not allowed to (must buy from corporate). Live and learn. They were nice enough to reduce the charge some but it was still sticker shock.

Buy all filters from Cummins (or atleast not the dealer).

Tell me about it!!!
The other day I stopped in to the local Dodge dealer to pick up fuel filters.

The parts guy punched up the number and asked "How many do you need?"

I asked "how many you got?" thinking that I'd buy the guy out.

He said he had 10 in stock.
"I'll take 'em all. " I said.

The look the guy gave me told me SOMETHING WAS WRONG.

"Uh... Do you know how much they are apiece?"

"I'd think 12. 00 each or so. "

"$42. 00 EACH. "

you are right FIND AN ALTERNATE SOURCE!!!

Does anyone have the "Fleetgaurd " part number ??

BTW... I took 2 from the dealer... . and yes. . I did have a strange feeling in my backside that told me what had just happened to me... #ad

Yep, and the air filter is $31. Had to do it the other day because Cummins Mid-Atlantic did not have the replacement filter in stock and I had to open the airbox to show them what it looked like!

It's interesting that you would bring this up - now I know why I got a funny look from the DC service write up guy when I had my A/T serviced. I had just been to Cummins and had 4 oil filters at $3. 75 ea and one air filter at $11. 75 sitting in my front seat. Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!

I see by youe signature you have a Genos oil drain kit. How well does it work? Does it leave much dirty oil, or does it drain completely? I'm ordering one and wondered if it was worth it or not.

My father told me that he bought fuel and oil filters from the local CASE/IH or John Deere Tractor dealership, they all use Cummins too. But I cant find a part number that will cross reference with their lists to even start to find the parts.

hey you think 42 bucks is bad. try owning a 99 powerstroke :{ like i used to and ford charges 90. 00 for the fuel filter. all the filter is is a paper element. :--) i am glad i own a cummins now,i don't have to worry about being stranded anymore. :D

I buy mine from either the local Napa dealer because they give me a long deal. Or the Freightshaker dealer. I have been getting the Stratapore filters reboxed in Napa boxes.

The other night I had to go to Pep Boys to get some F*rd parts. Just checked the filters for yuks. They wanted 38. 00 for it. Opened up the box it was a Fleetguard Stratapore!! I offered to stock their whole shelf for 12. 00 each.
