Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
When I imported my Dodge truck into England,
there was a lot of paperwork involved and various signatures
required. A friend of mine is currently in the process of importing
his truck into Spain and I asked him why it was taking so long ... ...
here was his reply
day 1: go to Ministry of Transport (MOT) inspection and explain
that you want a special inspection because you are importing the vehicle.
day 2: go to town hall and get residence card
day 3-10: call MOT to see if the bloke who does special inspections has turned up yet.
day 15: go personally to MOT inspection and grease their palms
with 50 notes and they decide to do the inspection that afternoon
day 16: call to Gastor and arrange meeting to take all
documentation from MOT and for car.
day 20: meeting with Gastor. They have exactly 1 month
to complete the paper work from the day your residence
permit was issued, otherwise your car no longer
qualifies as a personal import and you have to pay
3500 euros to import it.
day 21-45: call Gastor every bloody day and they
assure you all is well
day 46: go and see Gastor and grease their palms with
100 euro to get the paperwork cleared.
day 47-90: follow a complex process which involves
getting temporary insurance, then proving to the
vehicle registration that you do indeed have temporary
insurance in spain. They then grant you a registration
number. Take registration number back to insurance
company. They give you then full insurance. Take this
information back to vehicle registration, together
with proof that you have deregistered your car in the
former country ( this is technically impossible, so
bypass the hassle and proffer the obligatory 50 notes
instead ). Take document from vehicle registration
back to insurance company. Congratulations, you may
now go and have a licence plate/TAG made. Should you wish
to now change the licence plate/TAG given to you, i. e. a vanity
plate, then please repeat the last 6 steps again.
