My lowly 1st gen truck now sports the the wastegated exhaust, elbow, and dowpipe from an ISB. The downpipe comes to about an inch from the firewall now, and I'm absolutely certain that when towing heat is going to cause trouble.
I'm not particularly interested in turbo wraps, as I think the higher heat buildup in the turbo housing will simply get transmitted to the center section, with the bearings and oil catching the damage.
I'm just wondering if anyone has wrapped or otherwise insulated thier downpipe... If so, what did you use, did it work, was it expensive, and even more important... how much of a pain was it to install?
I looked at header wrap at the local parts house... and what they had looked pretty cheesy. Even some sort of thin insulating stuff for the firewall would be fine with me, I just haven't found anything yet.
Here's the image of the turbo and downpipe...
