I'm removing the head, and I'd rather not pull the lower radiator hose, and have it dump coolant everywhere. I've opened the drain valve, and the radiator cap, but nothing is coming out. The shop manual says to crank the engine to get it to flow out, but I obviously cannot do that now with so much stuff off the motor. Is there any way to drain the coolant without starting the motor?

The port at the bottom of the radiator has to turn and wiggle a bit and pull out a little to get the fluid flowing. you push in and turn to close it.

It is sorta slow but if you are saving the coolant, it makes for a controlled stream into a container. I also used a small 3/8" hose on the nipple down to the container.

The drain cock was a real PIA on mine. I thought I'd brake it . . . had to get some pliers on it and wiggle alot as I pulled back it finally let loose. Scarry - just be careful.

Turn, wiggle, pull - turn, wiggle, pull. Keep doing that and it will start flowing. Open the radiator cap too. Also once you get all the fluid out of the radiator opening up the inlet to the engine at the top (where the t-stat is) and pulling the tstat out will help it drain from the engine. Myself I always replace the t-stat when I change the coolant.
