Hi Guys, This is my first post, and I first want to thank you for all of the knowledge that I have gained as a result of your postings to date.

I have been combing over the postings regarding replacement of the heater core in my 06 and have also read the article in issue 59.

There is one thing I am not sure on. Some say to discharge the A/C system, some do not. The repair manual says to discharge the system, yet Joe Donnelly is highly experienced, and was able to get by without having to open the system.

I consider myself slightly above average mechanic, and this will be the first time doing such a job.

My question is: Do I have the system properly discharged, or am I going to be able to complete this task with leaving the A/C system intact? I have a second question. If I remove the joint clips on the A/C connections near the firewall, it appears that it will allow the two pieces to separate, their by opening the system. Any thoughts?

Thanks is advance for all of your help.

If you are actually replacing the heater core then you will need to discharge the AC. If just doing the recirc door and housing no need to even remove the box. The clips are just there to prevent accidental uncoupling. Remove the clips, then you still need the remover tool to open the girdle spring and disconnect the lines.
