Yesterday pulling of an offramp w/ our 'o3 w 130k, total unexpected shutdown.

Running fine just dead quit (dangerous as the exit had a sweeper in it and of course truck attempted to return to straight). Got her slowed and ultimately towed home 80+miles (good thing I had AAA plus member).

So my replacement (stock) lift pump made it less than 30k miles. I wonder if these things are old stock. I pulled codes got P0628 and Po483.

A FASS is in my immediate future. I believe I will be going with the platinum for my stock powerplant unless there is a good reason to go with the titanium double. I considered the direct replacements but think the extra filter is a good idea.

Now what's up with the P0483? I think I'll FASS it and see if the Code clears on it's own (I don't have a tool).

30k is a pretty short life but be forewarned, the FASS is a bit noisy. BTW, It looks like your fan clutch is on the way out (P0483) since the computer doesn't think it's spinning at the right speed anymore.

Is the sole option for the factory pump the platinum and direct replacement FASS and the dealer tank mount? Just how much more noise is the FASS? Can it be quited with rubber isolation?

I read the fan clutch may need replacing. Might just do it while the truck is down. It's been awhile since I wrenched on the truck, hope the rain holds off.

My buddy Chris got over 250k out of his original lift pump on his 03. I don't think he got 15k out of the replacement. He now has the Fass direct replacement.

That's the heck of it. I removed a running/pumping original as a preventative measure for this. How does he like the FASS direct replacement? Does it have increased sound (noise) levels?

I think he's happy with it. I havn't had a chance to get all the "particulars" on it, though. I'll try to call him tomorrow night and get the lowdown. His truck "Snowball" is a white 03 3500 srw long bed 305/555 (before the Bullydog and now Smarty), Goerend trans, muffler delete. He also has an 06 mega cab Sunday truck, old Ford crew cab with a Cummins 12 valve that is just about ready for the road again, and he just got his son a 98 2500 Cummins. He's Cummins poor!! Mark

I feel that the airdog systems are a lil less noisy and have had great luck with them and the price is right also.

Decided I need to research this further before I start making changes. I ordered a factory on filter replacement for 155 less 10 % (through midnight tonight) from napa had it at the local store less than 8 hrs later. Not bad for living in the booines.

I decided I need to look at all options. I like the idea of installing a --filter--pump--factory filter arrangement. Seems if I go aftrermarket (adjustable pressure pump) I need a fuel gauge, etc. I just do not have the time to source everything and install on a down truck, she needed to be back on the road now. I plan to proceed this summer though when I have more time to plan and collect the components.

One thing I did learn, Pull the left wheel splash shield and access the factory pump from the wheel well.

Much easier job this way. I completed the job in 1. 5 hrs including going to the parts store to pick up the pump and inline filter.

Thank you all for the help and suggestions. I've copied and saved this thread for later use.
