Can some one tell me what drill bitt size would be the largest that I can drill out a # 6 stright AN fitting at the VP 44, the fitting I want to drill is 3/8 on the AN side about 1/8 where it will go into the pump.

Thanks TJ

If I were you I would use a NPT size and convert it into a 90 degree to an AN size. I don't know why you want to drill the pump. Unless you are running a ridiculus flow rate it won't do anything. My FASS pump is set at 18lbs and at WOT I see it drop to 16. 5. I am nearing that ridiculus HP range also. :D

I think I know what he is talking about. I just picked up some 12mm x 1. 5 x 6AN fittings. The inside of the fitting is kind of necked down. I have a set of letter drills that i will be checking tomorrow to see what size to ream it out to. The fitting is solid alumionum, so I will be hogging it out a little.

Oh yeah, If you buy Aeroquip fittings, make sure the proper ones are in the box. It seems that part number FCM2246 has some 14mm x 1. 5 packaged in them. The local place I buy fittings has had to order 12 fittings so that I could get 4 of the REAL FCM2246

If you are going to drill out the AN-6 fitting, try to find a steel one. It will be much stronger than the aluminum fittings. The problem with drilling out the fitting is, as you enlarge the hole you are removing the surface that forms the seal as you can see from the photo. I measured a 0. 295” opening in the male straight fitting and only a 0. 260” opening in the female hose end. There is no way you can open up the female hose end and have a reliable connection. Just my 2 cents.

Stright6Jejj,

Your right the 12x1,5x6an is the one I want to drill out. The one I have looks like a pin hole 1/8 on the VP 12MM end and is 3/8s on the 1. 5x6 end that the female screws onto.

I plan on reaming it out to reduce the restriction.

Thanks, TJ

get to PE Pump and buy some of their fittings. . already hogged out and chamfered ... . very nice job on them

or call Rip Rook for parts from them as he is a dealer

The fuel inlet for my VP44 is a 12mm x 1. 25 thread. The fittings I just installed for my garden hose LP relocation kit (all 5 of them to convert from the 12mm to the 1/4NPT) had a . 203 ID hole. I just drilled them all out to 9/32 (. 281). I was going to try for 5/16 (. 312) but that would have made the thread wall a little too thin for my taste.

So to answer the question... 9/32 will leave you about 1/16 of thread wall so that would be about as large as you want to open it up.

90% sure, at least on the 02's. Either way the bore of the hole is the limiting factor as far as how much you can drill out a fitting for it. 12mm tap requires a 10. 8mm hole (. 425"). I suppose if you had some hardened steel fittings, you could drill them out as far as . 325 (5/16). The alternative is drilling and re-tapping the VP44 to accept a 1/4 NPT.

:--)

just an FYI

Parker and Goodridge [at least they are in their catalog] also make these fittings in steel... however it's like looking for the needle in the haystack to find them... BTDT

anyone needing these fittings please measure with care. . NO FLAME INTENDED. . [I just believe they are 1. 5 pitch]

Well mine is steel and I will bore it out to 9/32 & maybe 5/16 as it looks as though 5/16 may leave enough meat for the threads.

Numerous posts show the threads to be 12mm x 1. 5, not 1. 25

It's also the same size as the Weber carburetor inlet fittings. No flame intended-- just shooting for accuracy.

That's what Summit calls them in there catolog

The fittings are 12mm X 1. 5. I am having some shipped from American Hose in Santa Maria. . and they are steel. But these are going to -8n adapters!

Rick. . can you post a pic of these fittings please [I want to compair with what I think I know]... or send me a e-mail with a pic, Thanks
