Does anyone know how much movement is normal. The bearing has no slop but the outer rubber moved up and down about 1/8 inch when you push up and down on the driveshaft.
You will be able to move the bearing in the rubber even on a new one. I would accept 1/8" personally, maybe even more. Just depends on how hard you have to push to get the 1/8".
When you push up on a worn carrier bearing, you will know it. Tight bearings with movement in the rubber is fine. I lube my carrier bearings with a grease gun and a needle adapter.
just keep an eye on it, check it once in a while, it'll either let you know it from Vib or noise. Mine was vib, had been watching it, and each year could tell the movement / slop was getting worse and worse...
Does anyone know the carrier bearing part # for an aftermarket part, ex NAPA? For a 1995 Ram 2500 2WD. Replies much appreciated. Email fine too. Thanks. Steve M, Romney, WV -- email address removed --
