Hello fellows, need some advise. I'm working on a friends 96 quad cab, five speed. When towing if you hit a bump, you get a lot of surging from the drive train and kinda hard to locate the problem. The drive shaft and all u-joints aren't very old, it was all replaced when he had a U. S. Gear transmission installed. It kinda feels like it may have axle wrap, with the axle rotating up and down. I put in a #10 plate, 3K gov. springs and afc spring. All of this has made it more pronounced, I would imagine with the additional power. Its also a 4X4, could it be slack in the transfer case? If you have any ideas, throw them my way, I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

Thanks

Could be your throttle bouncing at the injection pump.

Has the truck had the updated cable put on?

Just a thought. There was a Tech Service Bulletin called "bucking truck syndrome" that they applied to all 95 and 96 5 speed trucks.

Check for broken return spring, I believe there are 2 and when 1 breaks it will do that. I am not sure where they are but remember reading about it here somewhere.

Redram: I didn't know about the service bulliten, I will see if I can find it. I replaced the throttle cable last week as his was almost broken. Thanks for the advise.

Deesul 1: When I replaced the cable, I found the small return spring broken and put a new one on. Thanks

Michael
