I am a new 2002 Ram 2500 HO 4x4 owner. Truck is leaving oil spots on driveway. Oily mist on front axle and steering components. Suspect it is from the crancase breather bottle. Is this normal for these trucks? If so has anyone used the Walker Airsep system? Does this system void the warranty or do any harm to the engine air intake system?

Breaking in

I have a 2001. 5 with 10. 000 km and I have never had excessive oil wetting from the engine breather overflow bottle. On the other hand as every engine is somewhat different yours could require a longer break-in period. If you have 5r or large trailer hook er up and put some miles on it, as this will help it seat the rings faster.

Cummins has a new breather setup (last 30 days) available. It consits of a number of different parts. I'm not sure it will work well with the dodge product.

What they have done is taken the blowby out of the valve cover at the oil fill, sent it to a seperator that mounts on the tin cover in place of the old breather. This seperator then sends blowby out a tube that looks just like your old one. Excessive oil is then drained back to the oil sump via the extra dipstick location that ISBs' have. There is a one way check in the drain to sump that prevents blowby coming up the drainback tube.

Will your dealer know this? I don't know, but they may. What I dont know is where they will install the oil fill. The seperator also has a port in it for oil fill that works well on most industrial applications . As I don't personally own a dodge I'm not sure if this different fill location will interfear with the fan shroud. When I get the time in the next couple days I will try to get the part #'s posted for any one interested.

Oil spotting

Thanks for the input from all of you, I do have a dealer appointment scheduled next week, hope it goes well as this is the first time. This is my first Dodge and diesel engine and I am learning a lot from this site, some of it I'm not sure I want to here, but then all machinery has issues of some type. Also I'm new at this forum stuff so bear with me.
