Have a couple of items on my seat that are broken & need attention (other than the padding).

First:

The up/down movment on the drivers seat doesnt work. It makes a noise similar to the other motors turning, but louder. Almost like the gear might be stripped.

Second:

The Lumbar adjustment is broken. The wheel spins freely until its tight and then wont move at all. Not the "resistant" turning that it usually has.

Anyone have any fixes for these?

Thanks

Craig

Sounds like the gears in the motors are shot and will need to be replaced from a pick a part place or buy new. Buying new will cost a bundle of money for sure. If you go to a pick a part,be sure and take a battery with some jumper leads. Unplug the harness of the found seat and make sure the motors runs all positions like it should. Make sure your sitting on the seat while testing it. I'm not sure if the newer generation truck seat motors will innerchange with a second gen,it worth a try. I don't know anything about the lumbar support. My car runs a pump that inflates an air bladder,if the bladder leaks the motor will run with nothing happening. I think my third gen truck is the same way.

Good luck.

I have two 2006 CTD's. Both have broken lumbar wheels. I did a little crude surgery on them, and at least have some lower back support. There is a hokey plastic course-threaded screw that the wheel turns. This screw pulls a metal rod inward and outward from the interior of the seat back. This rod increases or decreases lumbar support. I managed to get a wire around this rod, and then put enough tension on it to get some lumbar support out of it. This crude fix looks bad, but I can drive the trucks without being crippled. I MUST have lower back support. I love the Cummins, but some of the Dodge crap just makes me mad... I wish the Dodge had comfortable (and durable) seats like the Chevy's. (no flaming please, not trying to start a brand war)...

The new '10 Ram's have a much better seat compaired to what we are saddled with. But they could do better. I'm getting ready to replace the foam in my seat. I loved the seats in my last GM truck, too bad the truck fell a part around the seats. I drove my friends new Furd F350 King Ranch,it has the best seat of all the HD truck lines as far as I'm concerned. But for $63K bucks it damn sure ought to be. The new Ram's are still the best bang for the buck.

i just had that little plastic worm gear break on my lumbar. going to go see if i cant get that little gear today. ill let yall know.

Someone recently posted about replacement motors, don't remember who or what the title was, but a search should pick it out.

Ebay had some individual motors listed but, uncertain about their working condition.

One of my seat motors gears, front lift, quit working, I assisted the motor gear turning with long-nose vise grips turning the gear, to get to a comfortable position, unplugged that motor and that's the way it stays.

The last time I checked the 3-motor "assembly" was between $500 - $800.

And, was only sold as an "assembly"

As another poster mentioned, pic-a-part is the best option.

I dont know if this is still an issue, but you can have mine. . The seat motors work great. . my frame broke at the front tube cross section so I bought a used frame with motors that worked as well. . So. . If you are interested just hit me up and I would only ask that u pick up or pay for shipping. .

I broke the plastic recline handle clean off about six years ago just getting out of the truck and hitting it with my butt. I looked into getting a new one..... you have to buy the whole seat frame for like 3-400 dollars. Haven't used the recline since. I should weld on a lever.

broken lumbar

good luck trying to get that plastic screw piece from the dealer. it should cost about 2 bucks, but they don't sell it that way. you have to buy the whole assembly for about $185. mine broke with 36500 on my 05. i have not been able to find this part anyware. thinking of having it made at a machine shop out of metal. norton

Did you ever get a part made of metal

My plastic screw piece also broke about 4 years ago it was the passenger seat I bought this because my wife needs a heated seat with lumbar support for her real bad back (Celiac) she only rides in my truck occassionaly so I took my time checking with dealer for warranty repair. I live about 1. 5 hrs from dealer, I do my own servicing and have real low mileage so low I am ashamed to say how low, Anyway went to dealer to get smogged, while there I asked about the lumbar ( I have factory extended warranty) he looked it up and said it is considered normal wear and tear. I don't understand how a broken part made out of plastic is normal wear.

Anyway did you ever get a part made of metal I was thinking of doing the same, instead of replacing it with an entire assy with the same weak parts

Thanks Bill

firefighter 2000, my lumbar broke apart right after I bought my truck (used) and my local dealer ordered the parts for me. You have to replace the entire lumbar assy. and its pretty cheesy. You have to dissasemble the seatback by taking all the plastic trim pieces off behind the lumbar knob (the knob just pulls straight off, or breaks off like mine did) then remove the seatback upholstery and the seatback foam to replace the unit. Its not a difficult job, just time consuming and a little tedious. Sorry I don't have pics of the deconstruction, but here's pictures of the invoice with part number and price I paid. Hope it helps.

Nice Guys

If you guys need lift motors for your truck, you should most def give these guys a shot. They were prompt with my order and sent me emails for every change (ordered, money received and shipped). Barry is on top of his customer service game and I would recommend him to anyone.
