I've used the tow haul mode when I do it is the only time that the truck will down shift and keep the engine brake on. And on until almost a full stop. Very aggressive. That said tow/ haul really kills my fuel MPG around town with out a trailer. Can't have everything. I'm sure the larger 34" wheels don't help things. I have had the speed-o- re- calibrated so it reads correctly. That said my truck wants to always be in the highest gear. 30 mph and the engine is turning 1000 rpm. 65 Mph and I'm turning 1200 rpm. The truck's programming is nuts as it will climb a good hill at 30 mph and never down shift the engine does make more than enough torque to do the job.
The "F" SD transmission would down shift once or twice every time I would slow the truck down. Much like our Tow Haul mode only not as aggressive. The feeling was that the engine was always connected and I was always in control of the speed. Many times I was able to regulate the speed and not have to touch the service brake peddle. Much like the manual transmission's I had in the 05 and 12 Ram's I use to own. On my Ram the feeling is the engine is disconnected at least when stopping in normal non tow/ haul mode. Down hill can be fun sometimes when No one else is around...….. Not so much when the Fuz has their radar working.

Gotta run in tow/haul if you want better exhaust braking. I never drive with it off. Lugs the engine too much and doesn't provide the downshifting needed for the exhaust brake to perform well. Not sure why they have a tow/haul option, should be just programmed to be tow/haul at all times. I have grown tired of constantly pressing the tow/haul and exhaust buttons at every startup.

I so hate the fact that the default is everything off. E brake, Tow / Haul. The radio defaults to on. Priorities. I had hoped that someone would have figured out the system and would show us all on here a back door way to have the default settings the way we want them. Much like the way we can turn off the seat belt chime.....

On C&Cs it stays on, so there is FCA programming to do it.

FCA sceered the folks up north in the snow and ice will forget to turn it off and crash.

You never know what goes through their minds. I'm processing a claim right now with FCA to override C&C program disabling grid lines on the back up camera. They say after market truck body installers might not center it or mount it properly. My backup camera IS properly mounted, so I want the grid lines.

When a trailer is plugged into the 7 pin connector, the tow haul mode stays on when the truck is restarted. SnoKing

My son's 2013.5 truck stays on all of the time. When he hits is auto remote to turn the truck on the exhaust brake will come on after engine starts to run.
He had his EFI Live programed to turn the brake on when the truck is started. I borrowed his truck once to run an earn when they were living with us. I turn the brake off in the cab since I needed to talk to someone, forgetting to turn it back on. When he went to start the truck he notice that the brake was off, he asked me if I turned it off? Yes, I forgot to turn it back on. How did he notice? There was no jet engine sound coming from his truck when the brake is on.
