I installed Jardines 4" system about 4 month's ago. Ended up with the dreaded drone. At first it didn't seem so bad but as time went on it drove me nuts. Tried welding the joints. Then welding on a piece of angle to the tail section. All to no avail. Finally read a thread here were someone got a 4" resonator from Jardines and it solved their problem. Lo and behold one phone call later and it was on it's way.

Installed it today and it cured the drone right up. Unfortunately the install was made a little more difficult by me welding the joints. :( :( Thank God for Sawzall's. Anyway another good tip I got on the TDR was SS strap exhaust clamps. Those things are great. Thighten em up and they conform to the pipe joint and seal it tight. No dents in the pipe either if you ever have to remove it.

Only thing to check now is EGT's. Doubt it had any effect though. The resonator is only about 16" long and straight through. I mounted it up as far as I could. Being oval it couldn't go all the way were I wanted it but far enough to work.

Sorry this was so long but I'm actually excited about this. :D :D

Drone is good...

I also have the 4" Jardine and I actually like the "drone" that people have been complaining about. It is an especially nice deep drone (if you want to call it that) at 2000RPM. Maybe I've inhaled too many diesel fumes, but then again I also like the plume of smoke that I can lay behind me as well when I nail the go pedal! :D :D

Big White Beast, How many frog skins did the 4" resonator from Jardines set you back? I find that on all day drives the drone is rather fatiguing.

Drone

Just installed two 5" stacks. Now I think I have a drone right behind the cab ;) :) :D . Seems like some of us like noise and some don't. Of course I still like the noise my charger makes with open headers but I don't think my neighbors do:rolleyes: . Doug

Haven't got the bill yet.....

I believe they quoted me around $25. I know it wasn't too much. The key is I would have paid more to get rid of the drone.

I installed a jardine 4" exhaust with just the muffler and love the sound. Even my wife likes it, which as we all know is a real plus. I cant speak for other systems but the Jardine was a snap to install. 1st system was 3hrs to install next were 1hr.

Redneckdr..

I see on the truck parts site it's a minimum order of $200. Wonder if they would waive that.

The resonator is a Magnaflow product. Sorry I already threw the box away and didn't write down the model #. I would guess anyone handling Magnaflow would be able to get it for you.

Just to throw another 2 cents into the pot, I had E. P. I. (http://www.epiflex.com) make me a 4" diameter by 13. 5" long flex connector. I installed it this week just at the bottom of the downpipe. It removed about 60-70% of my resonance problem. It's very tolerable now, before it would drown out conversation between 1800-2100 rpm.

I got rid of my drone by welding in a short section of industrial flex pipe which is the same as above less the protective braiding. Price is right from any industrial piping supplier. Installed it at the same time as the HX 40 and BD remote 4" exhaust brake so can't say for sure whether the flex or the brake made the difference but the drone is gone. The HX 40 doesn't muffle the exhaust as well as the HX 35 but the tone sure is nice:)

usatruckparts

i found them by searching, don't know about their policies. most big truck parts places sell exhaust parts, too. i'd probably try that before ordering on line, since i've got several aftermarket truck parts places around. i've bought my other exhaust parts from them.

Can you give me more info on those straps. Email me at -- email address removed --

I checked into the Epiflex pipe. They were just too much money for me. They sure do look like a nice piece though.

I installed a piece of stainless steel flex pipe at the bottom of my downpipe connecting it to the rest of the exhaust. I used SS lapping band clamps to connect it all together (the flex and the rest of the exhaust).

I have never had any sort of a drone from my exhaust. If fact, I think it is as quite as the stock exhaust was (at least in the cab it is :) )

FTR - I'm running a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler and I did wrap the downpipe with header wrap (this may have helped with drone too.

Good luck to everyone trying to kill the drone.
