Test drove a 08 3500 QC 4x4 manual today and the sales guy gave me an on-the-road price of ~$41,000. He has 7 on his lot plus another 12 of the 2500 CTD's.

We hadn't planned on getting a new truck for another 2 years but i figured with fuel up and sales down i'd be able to swing a good deal but $41k doesn't seem like that wonderful a price. Something in the $36k-$38k range would put in the drivers seat. Thinking that the 09 will be arriving in a month or 2 they'd want to move these trucks soon.

Am i out of line? Should i wait?

Thoughts?

TIA

Brian :)

I think that it wouldn't hurt to wait a little while, especially if you weren't planning on buying right at the moment. I took a look at a regular cab 3500 today and wasn't overly impressed by the quoted deal either. I'm not necessarily in a hurry so I'm going to wait it out for the time being for sure.

i live in right around hampton, va and ive seen auto laramie qc cummins around 37k otd... ready to go. i just picked up my qc 03 w 63k here for $15,800 qc laramie, loaded. diesels are going real cheap. buy it now if you can get it cheap... .

Don't know if it's "the" time for you, but we bit the bullet last night on an '08 2500. $44,350, rebates, repeat customer, got us out the door for $37,000.

Thanks guys!!

Original plan was to get a new one 2 years before retirement (just under 4 years away) so i'd have 2 years to pay it off, break it in and add all the necessary goodies. Then we'll throw a new Lance in the back and travel 3-4 weeks at a time, Alaska, Florida, Mexico, etc. We've budegted $50 for the truck and haven't quite got that much set aside yet but there's money we can shift around to pay cash or all but a few grand so payments will be small.

I think i'll send him an email next week and tell him $37k total on the road and see what he says.

BTW, they have a 5500 Larime on the lot with an 8' box their body shop fabbed on that looks Real Sweet! $57k on the road... . ;)

Brian :)

Buy it at these prices while you can, don't forget the $2. 99 per gallon card. I think your dealer is just not hungry enough, but there are others that will deal. Just keep in mind that your going to get what's left over, may not have all the goodies your looking for. If you do a search here on TDR for on line dealers (sorry I can't remember their names) you can get what you want at a good price and get a free vacation out if it with what you will save. Oh ya Dave Smith is one of them, use that for a search. With oil dropping $15. 00 and falling per barrel they may start to move again and there will go your leverage. Its the Hemi's that are the hardest to sell so they have better deals but I'm sure you will find a good deal on a 3500 4X4 QC W/G56 :)

Good luck

Steve...

I got my 3500 for $38,000 last September. It was all done by E-mail and I didn't set foot on a lot until time to sign the papers and was willing to drive 200 miles to get it. Ended up diving 60 miles to this little town to pick her up and they even filled up the tank for the drive home. Email is your friend.

roger that, I got the '04 in my sig w/ 57k miles for $17k WITH all the mods!

its rediculous how cheap they are going. i remember when the 3rd gens first came out, i was 15 and i thought man ill never be able to afford one of those... . im only 19 and im drivin the exact truck i wanted (except for it being a stick). :-laf

here is my advice for anyone buying a new truck, invoice is calculated by taking 10. 5% off sticker, in my experience this works for other makes of vehicles as well including the toyota van I bought a couple years ago and the tacoma I helped my binlaw buy last fall, at least it will get you to within +or- a couple hundred bucks, never ever pay more than invoice price for any new vehicle, negotiate all deals over the phone with a salesman, the high pressure crap is gone with deals over the phone. you should also be able to add on any incentives to the 10. 5% off number for further savings, make sure you know what the current incentives are they are on all the manufacturers sites. some dealers like dave smith in idaho will sell for $1500 below invoice, most dealers will match that but you are gonna have to say the magic words "dave smith" that gets attention and they will know you mean business. armed with this knowledge you will save thousands

one edit, you are not through the mine field just yet, now you have to get past the finance manager, who will sucker you in every way possible, crappy lease terms, gap insurance, higher interest rates than you should be paying, extended warranties etc are just a few of the hosing items they can throw at you.

roger that, I remember the first time I saw a nice quad 4x4 3rd gen for under $18k over a year ago. it had some miles, but I was

fast forward to seeing similar trucks for under $15k earlier this year

I bought a single cab 2wd 5sp in March for $7700 out the door w/ TT&L!

when I found my '04, it was so cheap, I couldn't NOT buy it

Yep, we picked up an 08 3500 dually 4X4, Auto, quadcab, SLT, Leather, sunroof, etc for $38,400. * We bought this about 6 weeks ago.

When I purchased my 05 3500, Melloy Dodge in Albuquerque matched Dave Smith price plus through in free oil and oil filter changes for 7 years at two per year. I was also credited with all the incentives.

What's A Good Price ??????

I just posted on another thread that prices here in North Louisiana are really starting to fall in a hurry. One of the local dealers is advertising that he will sell any "in-stock" truck for MSRP less 40%... ..... that's HUGE. The ad also specified that included 2500 and 3500 diesels.
