I got to drive a new crew cab 4x4 dually last night with the duramax and an allison. The truck was a GM vehicle with a manufacturer plate and was supposed to be #10 off the line. The truck was LOADED w/pleather. A friend told me that he had just driven the truck as another friend had it home from work for the night. I wentr to his house and got him out of bed, away from his naked wife, to drive this thing, to see what the hype was about, as I was told that it will blow mine away,(coming from a big block gmc guy).
So anyway my friend lets me drive the truck, which you can barely hear run, and it actually seemed pretty quick. I was told the truck had 3. 73 gears, and it had the stock dually tires, small, compared to mine with 3. 55 gears and 285's. Seat of the pants feel was as quick or, Ihate to say this,quicker than my DODGE. It definantly would have beeten my truck if it did not have the 275's in it.
The trans shifted nice and firm and the truck was tight,2800 miles.
The truck was too quiet though as we could stand next to the front fender with the engine running, and carry on a normal conversation with out yelling or even talking loud.
The truck box was pretty slick, as the box side is plastic and the dually fender was all molded in as one piece of the side so no seam to collect road salt and rust the box side around the dually fender, but I'll bet they will be pricey to replace.
The truck was pretty nice, but i'll never get away from driving DODGE, and since this is my first CUMMINS that I've owned, I do not see myself driving anything else.

That truck should feel quicker since it is so much lighter. It would accelerate faster with the same amount of power. That engine just won't hold up to the torture that most people on here dish out at their Rams, especially if you start bombing it. Only time will tell, but I sure wish I could get my new truck with an Allison.

I'm thinking that if the guy left his nekkid wife to give a man a test drive in a truck, the wife is probably busy with someone who would have stayed home. Like, say, oh, the neighbor? Woo Hoo!

Well my wife drives a drives a chevy suburban 4x4. Can't talk her into driving it naked. She'll ride in the dodge/cummins naked however #ad


Works for me.

Wanted a diesel suburban, but found out what a wonderful engine that was so opted for the 350, but hopefully they will put the duramax in the burbs. Only way I''d own one. Since DC doesn't make anything close.

I agree with the earier post about hoping GM does make this eng work. It keeps DC and Ford on thier toes and ultimately we get a better product from all of them.

I love passing those V8 toyotas on those long hard pulls. Hehehe

At the risk of getting WAY OFF TOPIC.

The 2500 Burban's are supposed to get "De-Tuned" Maxi's because the General can not fit the Allison under the C/K floor pan and he does not have plans to build a 2500HD Suburbus presently...

so, you get a mild maxi and a 480LE or whatever the heck the general calls their slushbox now.

(I can say "HECK!" here still right?)

Remember Grasshopper, every vehicle has its proper place in the universe... and if it is diesel... it is likely IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR IF IT ISN'T A CUMMINS!
